“When people look, I try to see it as funny, instead of insulting.”

Today we celebrate the freedom to marry anyone from a different race, so I’m taking this opportunity to share a snippet from my interview with Chery and Nathan. They are currently living in a predominantly white town and planning to get married in 2022.🥳💍

“We get looks sometimes, but I always try to see it in a positive way. So I say it’s because we are good looking. That’s why people are watching us! I don’t know if that’s the reason, but I’d like to think that. You don’t know why people look! There can be million reasons, so we don’t worry about it too much.”

What is your funniest experience as an in*******al couple?

PS: Full interview can be found on the Getting Married Multiculturally Podcast episode 62.
Happy Loving Day to all in*******al couples!🥰

This is a great conversation with California based cross-cultural wedding planner, Michelle Isabel & Co . We talk all about how the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting multicultural couples who want to get married. And more importantly what do they need to look for after the Coronavirus restrictions are over and weddings are allowed.

Read about what it was so important for Nadia to get married to her husband as soon as possible, instead of way and postpone their wedding.🥰

“We are in the middle of a really really difficult global situation. I needed to be next to my husband, and I think he figured that out. So nothing at the end mattered more than us needing to be with each other in this time. This is a time that nobody has ever seen around the World. We need the people closest to us right now. We need to be with the people that we love and love us, because it’s a difficult time.”

Nadia, from Kuwait, wanted to have the perfect wedding with her Lebanese partner. But their dreams fell apart as the Coronavirus came about...

When you plan to get married at home, but your friends surprise you with a wedding parade.😍

“In the limo we were talking with Josh’s best man about how blessed we felt by our friends. They have been so understanding and patient with us. As we were saying that we started approaching the street where our photos were supposed to be taken. We started to see balloons and cars and I thought ‘ah great, someone is having a party here and we won’t be able to park our huge limo.’ But Josh’s best man told us to roll down our window and as we were driving I started to recognize all the people outside. ‘These are our friends from church!’ Everybody was screaming, shouting, and honking.” - Anastasija and Josh

Today is Juneteenth. The day when African Americans celebrate their freedom in the United States! Commemoration of the ending of slavery in this country. ⠀
And here we are more than 150 years later still fighting against racism!⠀

I recorded a podcast episode last night, sharing my thoughts and feelings. As a white European woman, living in American for 12 years… yes, there are many things I wasn’t aware of!⠀

Anastasija and Josh made the decision to get married at home instead of postponing the wedding.🥰 I LOVE they story!!

"Josh and I set down, prayed, talked about it and realized that we really have to cancel our wedding. And now that everything is canceled, we were like ‘it’s just a date in the calendar. We can either postpone to next year or move it closer.’ And we made a spontaneous decision to let’s just get married on Sunday!”

They were supposed to get married onApril 3rd. But after the Coronavirus restrictions were put on the city, they decided to cancel the wedding.

Nadia and Ali had big dreams and travel plans for their wedding. But that all got canceled when Coronavirus came about.

So they got married at home and asked the security guy from their building to take some pictures by this beautiful 200 year old olive tree. It’s inspiring to see that they were still able to make this day special and take it as an opportunity to be grateful for each other.

When you have to get married at home, without any guests, it may not feel like it’s a wedding. Right?!

Are you worried about feeling lonely and awkward at your quarantine wedding?

One of the tips I got from Nadia and Ali was that once you post some pictures on social media the big day will start to become more real. Reading all the positive comments from friends and families will make you feel as they are part of the celebration.

What will be the “new normal” when it comes to planning a wedding and celebrating with hundreds of guests?

I’ve invited Michelle Isabel & Co, who is an amazing cross-cultural wedding planner to chat with me about this topic on the podcast.

Here are some of the questions I asked her:
-How to stay motivated about the wedding planning?
-How can couples cope with some of the mental and emotional challenges during this uncertain time?
-Who should have a small intimate ceremony at home and who should postpone the wedding to a later date?
-Ideas for getting married at home?
-Advice to couples who decided to postpone.

So if you are in the middle of wedding planning and trying to navigate between the Coronavirus restrictions, check out this episode! 👉

Cross-cultural wedding planner, Michelle talks about how the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting multicultural couples who want to get married.
