I got to start off my 35th year by beginning work on a portrait project I've been conceptualizing with . The idea is to photograph her amongst some of her favourite features of the land out where she lives, in each season. Last week it was warm enough to shoot the first series of images, and we'll head back to these same spots three more times before the year is done. I'm still processing the film shots, but here are a pair of digital shots we made.

Portraiture continues to be one of my favourite forms of photography, and it felt really good to set out on an intentional photoshoot like this, rather than snapping portraits incidentally while doing other things. Although don't get me wrong, I love candid and spur of the moment images, too.

Parkland area folks, if you ever want to make some photos, either for a specific purpose or just for fun, you know how to find me. πŸ“·

I developed another roll of this sane unconventional film last night, looks like it's going to be more successful. Until I get it scanned, though, here's another shot on the same film from November, when it was barely even cold at all. I find it interesting that the skin tones came out so much better than the shadow areas. Thanks as always to this lovely human for the company and the portrait. πŸ’™

Film is so wild; when I finished shooting and developed this roll of random film I found at a thrift store, I saw something very strange. There is some sort of mold or fungus growing on the film! Emulsion is coated onto cellulose, and given the right circumstances, it's possible for spores or bacteria to take hold and flourish. I've never seen this before, and dang is it cool! Yet another reason I love shooting expired film.

Pouring through recent photos while pulling together a zine. Found this shot from my photo hangout with . Window light. Hasn't failed me yet. Perfectly illuminating Izzy and her studio filled with her art. This is such a good spot you've got, pal.

I've had a zine on ecologically friendly film developing for a little while now, thanks to . This weekend I finally tried out a recipe for developing B&W film using dandelion leaves, and here are the results! Really pleased to have gotten it right the first time, and so stoked to explore this method more while the weeds are here! I've posted photos and videos of my process to my highlights, if you're curious and want to follow along. There is a photo of the aforementioned zine in there, too. Experimentation really recharges my creative batteries. I'm so excited for this!

I don't feel like my polaroid land camera is really designed for concert photography. Especially not a performer that moves around so much. Or maybe I'm just not good at using a rangefinder. Anyway. I wanted to shoot some instant shots at 's show, and this is the camera I had on hand. So despite the limitations, these have a messy charm to them that I enjoy.

I would not ordinarily go to any sort of festivities on july the one, but knowing that was playing a free show just an hour from here tempted me out. It's been 3 days now and I can't shut up about her, it was so incredible! Been listening to her music nonstop since as well, and you should too. 🌌

A few of the photos I printed off to give to the operator of this game. Swipe to see her favourite prizes, and an appropriate shot of the glow of her old school incandescence bulbs. πŸ’‘

I made friends with the operator of this vintage game booth at the fair yesterday. Hers is the last one with the original bulbs, not modernized to LEDs. Check my story for the narrative of shooting there and developing it this morning. I'm off to the photolab to make prints, stay tuned. πŸŽžπŸ“ΈπŸŽž
