“They said, ‘You are a savage and dangerous woman.’ I am speaking the truth. And the truth is savage and dangerous.” — Nawal el Saadawi
International Women’s Day, a day to reflect on the pioneers that came before us and paved the way to where we are now, the brave souls who continue the fight for women and equality while much of the world resists stuck in its own cultural habits developed over centuries. Here’s to the daughters who will inherit this earth and the little girls within us that still hope for a better future for the next generation, and healing within their own. Here’s to every survivor of abuse including those still within the confines of an toxic relationships, here’s to the r**e survivor who will put a name and a face to their attacker, here’s to those that still can’t even after years of healing from trauma, here’s to our sisters who are working on behalf of those without a voice, here’s to the women fighting against patriarchy, wage gap and gender discrimination in workplaces and organizations across the world… here’s to the new generation of activist that are rising up confronting their own safety in order to bring light to issues the media or certain countries don’t wish to discuss.. here’s to a generation of women who are using their bodies and their art to promote body positivity and self respect instead of reinforcing the need for traditional beauty standards…. here’s to our women leaders, board members, coaches, doctors, and entrepreneurs, and here’s to supporting them whenever we can. They say women have to work twice as hard as a man to achieve the same thing. Let’s change that by being the decision makers, the voices against inequality, the s**t disturbers who won’t let “just an innocent touch” be swept under the rug, the whistleblowers of bad behaviour, the leaders who will use their platforms to raise awareness, and all of the change makers - this is every one of us. The truth is savage, but we can continue this fight together with a renewed momentum and spirit when we start removing the barriers between us. It’s time for all the sisters of the world to stand together.
