"Stop comparing yourself to others."
Being on social media creates easy access to comparisons of other people, artists, almost anything imaginable. We've all thought to ourselves, what if I had that person's resources, what if, what if....The fact of the matter is there will always be someone out there that you 'think' has more than you do.
Something I always tell my students, people I mentor, or anyone coming to me for advice is: What if you never created something new because you were too afraid of not being as 'good' as those you are comparing yourself to? If it scares you, do it, and do it to the best of your ability. You will grow and increase your capability no matter the outcome. If it didn't work out, brush yourself off, figure out what went wrong, and do it again. You'll be proud of yourself and your work.
Two people who have this quality in spades are both the model you see in the image and her mother. It's not just a good work ethic, but it's a positive attitude and strength in the mind and soul that makes both of them strong, successful, and confident women. It's such a pleasure to have taught and been in the company of both of you.
This image was tough because it was shot in glacier fed water, shortening shoot times, and making it very difficult for my model to not want to curl up in a ball to keep warm. But we did it, and I think it's such a gorgeous image!
