I’m not behind the lens as often these days but it’s always a pleasure get away for a couple days and experience the awe of creation. It’s so easy to get stuck staring straight ahead at what’s flying your way that you forget to pause and look up. Skyview campground truly living up to its name!

When we walked down onto the beach at Cultus Lake yesterday to do a quick lifestyle shoot with I was slightly annoyed with the elderly gentleman out for an evening pedal for being in the way of the photo I had imagined, with a different subject, but as I walked further down the beach to get set up I realized that he wasn’t in the way of a photograph, he was the photograph.

So, what do we as photographers learn from this? Don’t get so absorbed in your preconceived vision for a shoot that you miss the amazing composition right in front of you.

Also, he had epic bald eagle calls! Once I stopped to enjoy the moment.

Last Friday’s hike with my good friend Carl up Hope Mountain. It was both a more grueling and more rewarding hike than we expected!

It’s wild to think that it’s been nearly four years since you passed on to the other side of eternity… aside from being my brother in-law and one of my closest friends, you were also one my favourite guys to shoot with! Seven years ago today I was taking photos of your first flight in Iceland! Talk about an impressive birthday: paragliding, waterfalls, and that $24 desert you wanted from the restaurant in Vík (because you didn’t realize the exchange rate 😂)!

I’m so glad that the grief fades but the memories sticks around! Make sure you and Jesus get some good birthday flights in today!

They say April showers bring May flowers but they also bring spontaneous adventures between torrential downpours!

I love the spring for the moody skies and green veneer covering the winter browns. I also love how lowering your lens can make a photo shot in the middle of town feel like it’s somewhere in the wilderness!

I’m stoked to officially make the jump over to the A7Riii paired up with the new 20-70mm f/4 G glass! Wandering around with a full frame mirrorless is pretty magical.

Or fir trees, if you’re living on the west coast of British Columbia. After a three and a half year hiatus from taking photos, as in truly good photos, this year seems to be the year for picking up my lost art. I’m looking forward to rediscovering life between the trees.
