Save the dates! May 23 & 24 is the annual Cannery Row Garage Sale and the site of my biggest prop sale to date. I will also be popping up with my food!

This year’s ice cream offering is an eggless hojicha custard kissed with coconut and tonka bean, finished with a fudge ripple of malt chocolate. This is a pre-order item only and pre-orders will close on the 20th at 21:00 PST. Any remaining pints will be put for sale on the 23rd.

Pre-order here: https://studio-et-alia.square.site

Please also note that my food offerings will only be available on the 23rd! I will, however, be on site on both the 23rd and 24th because I have hella ceramics on offer and I really hope they go to good homes that weekend.

Cash and card accepted, but please bring your own bags! I will have some packing material for the ceramics available. If you are picking up your ice cream orders, please bring a freezer bag lined with ice packs so your ice cream stays frozen when you get home.

I will be joined by one of my besties, this year! And my neighbours, of course. Come find some treasures!

See you all next weekend!!!

Nettle and ramp Chinese puff pastry encloses a tomato and harissa-flavoured shrimp stew. This is my third-culture take on rissóis de camarāo—Portuguese shrimp turnovers. I remember walking to my neighbourhood Nova Era in Toronto to procure some of these. They were a little expensive for our family, so these were a very rare treat. To buy them for myself out of the allowance I got from doing chores was a big deal to me. And no, I would not share my haul, LOL! 🍤

Eat these tomorrow, . These will be fried fresh in the early morning, ready for the market!

Swipe for the rest of the menu!

A Very Merry Unbirthday
May 9, 11 am to 6 pm
Croatian Cultural Centre
3250 Commercial Drive

Part of ’s Witches’ Hedge. It’ll be $5 at the door, to be split amongst community initiatives (TBD). I will also be holding my annual fundraising for Gaza in the sales of my Southeast Asian twist on ma’amoul, stuffing classic turon flavours inside the incredibly fragrant butter cookie dough. If you have not had ma’amoul, you are in for a treat. It’s delicate, delicious, melts in your mouth, and its flavour just takes you to a whole other world. I did a lot of research and consulted my Palestinian friends for tips on this one. I really, really want to do this beloved West Asian cookie justice, and I think I did well. 🥺

May is my birth month, but not until the 29th, so A Very Merry Unbirthday, indeed! I played a bit of a Mad Hatter in the conception of this menu. Et voila, here are my menu offerings for this Saturday, including the return of my popular preserves (my mushroom cola syrup and banana ketchup), as well as a small run of my spiced elderflower cordial.

Cash and card will be accepted, but please bring your own bags! It’s gonna be an insanely beautiful Mothers’ Day weekend, so please come through! ☺️

See you this Saturday!

PS: I can still recite this album beat by beat, trill by trill. 🦋😂

AMALGAM POP-UP ANNOUNCEMENTS! 📣

It’s a little past mid-April now and I just wanted to take this time to make an initial announcement of my upcoming pop-ups in May!

May 9 ()
Witches’ Hedge
Croatian Cultural Centre
3650 Commercial Drive
11 am to 6 pm

I’ll be back slinging my baked goods here at this market after several months’-long hiatus to recover from the Winter holidays. This one will be a tea and tisane-focused menu. An Amalgam Tea Party of sorts, in honour of Mothers’ Day weekend and Spring!!! Menu to be announced, as I am still figuring out how much to make. Please observe that I will only be participating on May 9. Witches’ Hedge will be on for May 9 and 10 with an amazing roster of vendors!

May 23 and 24
The Annual Cannery Row Garage Sale
2001 Wall Street
10 am to 5 pm

Not only will I be slinging some baked goods (and maybe ice cream), I am also holding MY LARGEST PROP SALE EVER. It’ll be big. I am massively culling down my ceramic props (I have about FOUR substantial cabinet’s-worth) and these contain all handmade ceramics that I have acquired from ceramic artists for my food photography practice, from all over the world too. I already eat out of my props, but I still have so much, y’all. Please help them find good homes. Most of the ceramicists I have shared over on my Stories and posts will be represented on this sale, and I will be offering them at a discount (20% to 50% off what I paid for them). My practice is shifting and I want these precious pieces to go to good homes. Vases, plates, bowls, little saucers, LOTS of mugs, as well as artisan-made cutting boards and vintage cutlery… Are you a florist, food photographer, or lover of nice ceramics? Come get the props you have seen in my photographs from me.

Food menu TBA.

That’s it, that’s all! I will be peppering my Stories and posts with reminders of my May pop-ups… My next pop-ups after this will likely be sometime in the fall, TBH.

I hope to see you there! Please share this post to people who might be interested!

Hoppy Easter weekend! It’s sunny here in Vancouver! And what better photos to post on this lovely sunshiny day than photos of this beautiful, edible, ode-to-spring masterpiece by the wonderful ? She made this nettle cake for ! We could not resist photographing this beauty at Adina’s wild garden.

Dreaming of another visit to SSI sometime again this year. Here’s hoping. 😊

In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine! 🌷

Woke up in Salt Spring Island this morning. Here with and her daughter having a bit of a ladies’ day. ‘Had to order myself a nettle cake to take back home to my husband, of course.

Here for only one full day, so here are some photographs I took from about a year and a half ago. My husband and I spent our fifth wedding anniversary in Salt Spring then. This is the time we met in person for the first time after a friendship was struck over IG. Adina was also kind enough to connect me with Jane from while we were here last. My husband still talks about how impressed he is with Jane’s greenhouse and how he can talk to her about it forever. 🍋🍊🌴

My ideal hummus is super silky smooth and luxurious-feeling. You should be able to detect some levity and is seasoned simply with salt. A good baseline hummus should provide a blank canvas for your toppings of choice. Here, I top the hummus with a quick green shatta, good quality olive oil from .odyssey, and aleppo pepper flakes from .

I included my baseline hummus recipe under the ‘Your Body Has Memory’ series on my Substack. This series—small but growing—highlight chemosupportive recipes that are fun and nourishing, and are aimed towards caregivers looking after their loved ones who are battling cancer. The recipes under this section are not under a paywall and are meant to be accessed by everyone. They contain many food elements I craved and wanted to eat when I was going through my own treatments. Each post contains a small section on the ingredients I use and their nutritional benefits.

As always, please be aware that I am not a registered dietitian; I only intend to provide ideas for food. Do consult with your oncology team on dietary needs and list down all the foods that might counter with the particular meds you are receiving.

Cancer or no cancer, this method of making hummus is just spectacular. These days, I make a big batch of this every week. My husband is under a strict health-related diet at the moment and this hummus really is a bit of a godsend for us.

A simple little study of blue oyster mushrooms for the end of what has been a very blue January—mentally, emotionally.

Mushrooms have played a significant role in my life since my initial ♋️ discovery in the late autumn of 2022, and has since continued to be the one food I consistently want to bring home, capture, and cook. I don’t spent too much time with it with my camera… I just rely on the moment and whatever available light I have. I rarely feel compelled to pull out all of my fancy lighting tricks when I do little studies like these. (And TBH, I am rarely compelled to pull out my lighting studio, period. My photo practice is in hard-reset mode.)

(And because I am a little quiet and private about my ♋️ journey, yes, I have, and am, by the grace of the universe, survived and surviving.)
