We all get inspired to inspire. However, there’s a difference between inspiration and systematic concept-borrowing — and “systematic” is the key word. Crediting your source or inspiration is noble; staying silent about it is not.

I live for the day when love for the art and the community will be stronger than trying to be the coolest artist on the internet.

It’s a very thin line between recreation and copying. But it all can be prevented by a simple mention, credit and ask. By appropriating other’s content you’re harming your own reputation and you’re harming the creator you’re admiring too. Simple steps keep can keep the good relationship in an artistic community.

Some stories don’t have to be grand, they just have to mean something. This series is my way of remembering the first home I built for myself. My first place in Vancouver that felt truly mine. I want to remember it the way it is, because I know that one day I’ll have to let it go. And I don’t want to make the same mistake I made with my childhood home - not taking enough photos to remember. Now I’m starting to forget it, even though it’s so precious to my heart.

I used the Zhiyun zhiyun M60 Ultra for this shoot. Small, portable, and so easy to work with — I’ll be reaching for it on night shoots and whenever I need a subtle fill without drawing attention away from the main light.
