Her Daughter Vanished in 1983… She Left Everything Behind (Abandoned House)
Hidden behind new subdivisions on the edge of Brampton, Ontario, this abandoned house is still full of a family’s life: furniture, bills, mementos and hundreds of photographs. Among them is a missing poster for a daughter who vanished more than 40 years ago.
On Valentine’s Day 1983, 16-year-old Darlene Tucker found out she was pregnant, argued with her mother, and walked out of her family’s Oakville home. Six months later, her friend Jan Stonehouse, also 16 and also pregnant, disappeared too. For a few years there were signs of life: collect calls from a payphone in Huntsville, a sighting of Darlene waitressing in Toronto, and in 1987, one last confirmed sighting of the two girls together in cottage country.
Then nothing. Darlene and Jan are still listed as missing persons with Halton Regional Police today.
Her family never stopped searching. In this video I explore the home her mother and stepfather shared for years, piece together their story from what was left behind, and ask the question that still has no answer: where is Darlene Tucker?
