My grandmother was many things—kind, generous, resilient, and a leader in her community. She spent her life showing up for others, offering wisdom, lending a hand, and making people feel seen and cared for.
Today, these photographs are some of my most treasured possessions. Not because they're perfect, but because they remind me of how it felt to be loved by her. My biggest regret is not getting in any of the photos with her.
It's easy to avoid the camera because we don't like how we look. We worry about wrinkles, weight, aging, or whether we're photogenic enough. But one day, the people who love us won't be looking at those things. They'll be looking for us.
They'll want to remember your smile, the way your eyes lit up when you laughed, the comfort of your presence, and the feeling of being loved by you.
Photographs aren't just about preserving faces. They're about preserving connections, relationships, and stories. They become proof that we were here, that we loved, and that we were loved in return.
So get in the photo.
Not for yourself today, but for the people who will hold those images close someday and be grateful they have them.
Because one day, these photographs may be all that's left—and they will mean everything. ✨
