This summer I was lucky to have one of the best lynx encounters I’ve experienced. Although I have not posted regularly for quite some time now, I still keep my camera nearby for moments like this. For four years, from 2017-2021, I spent hundreds of hours searching for lynx. I snowshoed, skied, hiked, biked, and drove countless kilometres. With all that effort, I did manage to have some incredible encounters. Other priorities have taken precedence the last few years so I haven’t spent as much time doing photography. I definitely haven’t invested the time into finding lynx that I used to. This makes me feel particularly lucky to have crossed paths with this lynx on the way home from a camping trip. The lynx was complete unconcerned that I was watching, and continued to hunt along the remote forest service road. I was witness to several failed attempts to catch voles. Then, the lynx crouched down and pounded once more. I heard the shriek of a hare and a rustling sound in the bush. A silence then took over the woods. This is the only time I have witnessed a lynx successful in capturing a hare. Very thankful to have had front row seats to an awesome wildlife experience.
