My favorite owl, the ghost of the boreal forest.
This past winter was my first season dedicated to finding and photographing this magnificent species. I spent countless hours searching, hoping for a chance encounter, and when it finally happened, I could hardly believe it. I still remember that first moment holding my breath, completely in awe, trying to process how fortunate I was to be standing in the presence of such a remarkable bird.
The Great Gray Owl is a truly special and elusive species. Majestic, unique, and rare, it is a bird that many people never have the opportunity to see in the wild.
I am deeply grateful for that unforgettable moment and for the privilege of sharing the forest with this incredible owl.
Here are a few captures from March 8, 2026. I hope our next encounter will be in the boreal forest itself.
