June 13 thunderstorm chase around Ottawa! ⚡️

We were a bit late to intercept the approaching cell, but we managed to get into position along the side and behind the storm. From there, we were rewarded with some impressive lightning displays and a great view of the storm as it moved through.

Screech Owl portraits!!! 🦉

Every visit with this little buddy is a learning experience. Owls are, without a doubt, my favorite subjects to photograph, but screech owls hold a special place in my heart. Maybe it's their tiny size, their incredible camouflage, or the big personality packed into such a small bird, but every encounter feels unique and memorable.

My favorite owl, the ghost of the boreal forest.

This past winter was my first season dedicated to finding and photographing this magnificent species. I spent countless hours searching, hoping for a chance encounter, and when it finally happened, I could hardly believe it. I still remember that first moment holding my breath, completely in awe, trying to process how fortunate I was to be standing in the presence of such a remarkable bird.

The Great Gray Owl is a truly special and elusive species. Majestic, unique, and rare, it is a bird that many people never have the opportunity to see in the wild.

I am deeply grateful for that unforgettable moment and for the privilege of sharing the forest with this incredible owl.

Here are a few captures from March 8, 2026. I hope our next encounter will be in the boreal forest itself.

These special spring sunsets hit differently when warmer temperatures and a quick rainfall suddenly create the perfect conditions for a rainbow-filled sky. The rain wasn’t in the forecast at all, so getting surprised by this magic out in the field made the moment even more unforgettable.

📅 May 22 2026 🌌

Finally, a night back under the stars. I had missed heading out beneath a new moon and clear skies to witness the summer Milky Way core rising above the horizon. While trying to capture the universe from Earth, my companion and I listened to owls, coyotes, raccoons, and sandhill cranes echoing through the night. For the very first time, I attempted this target using a sky tracker MSM and the experience made the night even more special.
