This summer has been so hot that this sign pretty much sums up my daily mood. Step outside for 5 minutes? Done. Try to enjoy a patio? Finished. I literally saw one man almost collapse from the heat. I feel personally attacked by the weather — it honestly felt like Toronto got mistaken for the Sahara this year. But hey, at least it’s perfect weather for iced coffee and making the most of summer:)

For a moment, it looks like I discovered a secret portal to another world—just me, the light, and this ancient spiral carved into stone.

Reality? A never-ending line of tourists inching down the stairs, a security guard yelling “keep moving!” like a broken record, and half a second to grab this shot before getting nudged out of the way. No zen, just survival mode.

That said, Quinta da Regaleira is stunning. The gardens, tunnels, and architecture are straight out of a dream. Just don’t be fooled by the empty Instagram shots—unless you’re a ghost or a ninja, you’re sharing the magic with hundreds of new friends.

I didn’t expect much from Death Valley—just heat so intense it makes you second-guess your life choices. And yeah, it was that hot—walk ten steps, question everything.

But the views? Absolutely out of this world. Like driving through a different planet every few miles. Long, winding roads that beg you to slow down, pull over, and just exist for a while—sweaty, sun-dazed, and fully in awe.

If you can, stay for sunset. And then—stay a little longer. Because once night falls, it’s like someone switched dimensions. With barely any light around, the sky explodes into billions of stars. Quiet, vast, and unforgettable.

Somewhere between Kingman and Peach Springs, I accidentally time-traveled and landed at Hackberry General Store—a place that looks like someone tried to build a gas station, got distracted in 1959, and never came back.

There’s no gas. No food. But there is a headless mannequin in a bikini, a cactus with attitude, and enough rusted cars out front to film a Tarantino scene. Inside? Coca-Cola signs, dusty Route 66 maps, and souvenirs that feel like they’ve been there since rotary phones were cutting-edge.

I stopped in for a quick look and left with a stack of postcards, 17 photos of a cactus, and no real explanation for any of it.

Late afternoon in a coastal town.
The light shifted, people moved, and everything fell into place for a second.

Hoover Dam is one of those places that hits harder in real life. The scale is almost impossible to grasp until you’re standing at the edge—towering concrete, dizzying height, and views that steal your breath (and maybe your balance). A surreal stop carved into the desert, where human ambition meets raw, rugged landscape.

Tucked away on a sun-drenched hill, this little bell tower stopped me in my tracks. The worn stucco, the deep blue sky, the quiet echo of history—it all felt like a gentle pause in time. Sometimes, it’s these quiet corners that leave the loudest impressions.
