Jennifer van Son Photography Wedding & Lifestyle Photographer based in Toronto, ON. I learned that I love people, I love parties, and I love… love. So this industry was a perfect fit.

I’m obsessed with all things wedding and am so lucky to be able to work with amazing couples & families who make my job even sweeter. I joined the wedding industry over a decade ago… as a wedding singer, not really related to photography at all – but this was an important part of my journey into the wedding world. I’m based out of Durham Region but provide wedding photography to Toronto, the entire GTA, and beyond. Photography is a joy & a priveledge for me. Being given a sneak peek into the lives of my clients is such an honour and I don’t take the responsibility lightly. Life is a beautiful thing and I want to capture every breathtaking moment. Being good at your job is one thing. Knowing how to read a room is another.

After 15 years of photographing weddings, I can tell you that some of the most important skills I’ve learned have nothing to do with a camera. And I do believe the same goes for anyone on the professional wedding team.

Knowing when to step in, when to hang back, when it’s appropriate to ask for a behind-the-scenes clip and when it’s best to just zip it. 😅

Weddings are emotional, personal, and sometimes chaotic. Not every moment needs our input, our direction or our content.

I believe there’s a responsibility that comes with being invited into some pretty intimate parts of people’s lives. Obviously our work matters, but so does the experience people have with us while we’re making it.

But actually we do have so much fun! I wish I always got to shoot weddings with my friends. Documentary Super 8 film definitely has its challenges. But not carrying the mental load (and physical camera load) is preeeeetttyyy sweet. Hire jennifer cornthwaite and me to tag team photos and vintage video. I promise she actually has fun 😂.

It’s insane to think that only a decade and a half ago we were delivering final wedding galleries on DVD. I don’t even own a DVD player for my computer. How is one to access those files if there are anything like me? We have sent moved on to USB and online galleries, but if history has taught us anything if that technology will change, and once again, these methods of soaring photos will become obsolete.
I will never stop preaching how important it is to print your photos and create hardcopies of the memories that me and the most to you.
Cover photo is my parents on their wedding day in 1980. My apologies to the Photographer, I don’t know who you are, but this photo means the world to our family. Thank you for taking it!

A a little late wedding season peptalk for my photographers, wedding planners, venue, owners, hair and Makeup Artist rental companies, florist, musicians, etc. etc. etc. We have the best job in the world and we’re so close to hibernation season. You got this! Let’s end it at 100.

Super friendly (but firm) reminder from your photographer: download your gallery!! The whole thing. And then back it up. And maybe back it up again. 😅

Your photos are precious, and while photographers keep galleries online for a period of time, we can’t store them forever. Have you seen the cost of hard drives lately?

Download them. Save them in a couple of places. Print your favourites. Treat them like the irreplaceable little pieces of your life that they are. ♥️

Future you will be very glad you did.
