I was Director of Photography on this documentary for SEIU Healthcare, directed by Felipe Noriega. We filmed healthcare workers at home, on the job, and in the long hallways where most of their work goes unseen.

“Compassion, patience, empathy.” That’s how one worker described the job. My job was to make sure the camera treated them the same way.

The film has now won 19 festival awards, including Best Debut Documentary Film at the Luleå International Film Festival.

Nobody performs for a camera this small.

That’s why I keep the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P in my kit. On a documentary shoot, the moment people notice the camera, they start performing. This one disappears and what’s left is the truth.

The best footage I’ve ever captured didn’t come from the biggest rig. It came from being present enough that people forgot I was filming.

We came to tell their stories. They ended up teaching us.
Quezon, Philippines. Health centers, classrooms, and community spaces. Every location welcomed us like family before the cameras even came out.

The health workers who walk their communities every single day. The nursing students who showed up nervous and left glowing. The families who opened their homes and trusted us with their lives on camera. That trust is not something you earn with a call sheet. You earn it by listening first, slowing down, and remembering you are a guest.

At the end of every shoot, we took a group photo. Not for the gram. Because every single person in these frames is part of this film.

The Philippines, alive and well. Ten days across the country, and it was the people who stayed with me long after we wrapped: the students, the vendors, the faithful at Quiapo, the faces that let us in. Grateful to have carried the camera for this one.

Wrapping up an unforgettable trip to the Philippines 🇵🇭

From the unmatched hospitality to the deep cultural connections, this journey has been nothing short of amazing. The Filipino culture of putting others first isn’t just something they do, it’s who they are. Everywhere I went, people made sure I was taken care of before thinking of themselves.

Shooting this documentary took us across different cities and provinces, and every conversation, every connection, and every moment opened my eyes to new ways of doing things, both in business and in life.

A huge thank you to the incredible local crew who made this production possible, and to everyone who sat down and shared their stories with me. Grateful, reflective, and already looking forward to coming back.

What started as a normal day heading to the Mall of Asia turned into my first-ever ambulance ride, a hospital stay, and a diagnosis: kidney stones. 🇵🇭

Excruciating pain, four rounds of meds, and a CT scan later, I’m about 90% recovered. Grateful for the medical team here, my crew stepping up in the clutch, my wife staying calm from the other side of the world, and prayers that came through.

Still medicating, still hydrating (the team won’t let me forget ), and we’re already back to shooting. Next stop: another province, a 6am departure, and a 6-hour drive.

People see the final frame. They rarely see what it takes to get it.

This is the other side. Hauling the rig through market crowds that don’t stop for anyone, working the coast, standing inside a castle with walls older than most of what we know, chasing light before it moved on us. Long days, heavy gear, a crew that stayed locked in through all of it.

Shooting in a place like this teaches you fast. You adapt, you move quick, and you let the country set the pace instead of fighting it. Every one of these frames cost something, and every one was worth it.

Akwaaba. That’s the first word that greets you in Ghana, and it set the tone for everything that came after.

From the second we stepped out of the airport the place refused to sit still. Independence Arch standing over the city, markets that displays the hustle, kids waving flags, horses tearing down the beach at full stroke.

We came with a shot list and a plan, and Ghana kept handing us things we never could have planned for.

This first drop is the arrival. The country before the work even started.
