More from my sessions with Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans…

In 2028, The Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association will commemorate the 80th anniversary of United Nations Peacekeeping with their PK80 PROJECT, paying tribute to all Canadian Peacekeepers who have dedicated themselves to the cause of global peace. I’m proud to be working with them to create a series of portraits that will honour their service and their sacrifice.

“Call me Walt.” It wasn’t the greeting I expected from the former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces, President of the Canadian Space Agency, Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs, and distinguished Public Servant.

After spending much of his career in positions that demanded authority, General Walt Natynczyk certainly moved with an air of polished charisma and dignity. But what surprised me was just how warm and genial he was - open, expressive and genuinely engaging right from the start.

We spoke not only of his storied military career and public service, but also about something much more personal: the importance of his family. It set the tone for a portrait session that was rooted in honesty and humanity, capturing not just the indelible persona he’d cultivated over the years, but the human being behind it.

Together, I think we created some very special portraits that will be a powerful addition to the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association’s PK80 Project.

Walt was the epitome of an officer and a gentleman.
