A big thank you to my life long friend and sometime boss for having me document a once in a lifetime trip to London, Oxford, and Windsor UK on behalf of the .foundation . It was a wonderful assignment and experience, made even better by having a great friend with me for the journey. It was an honour and a privilege.

There’s always at least one person at a wedding who puts everyone else to shame on the dance floor.

One remark I receive often when I photograph a wedding is how late I stay. It’s common for wedding photographers to limit their services to a number of hours, resulting in their departure soon after the dance floor gets going.

For me, the story of the day includes the dance floor shenanigans. It’s also one of the best part of the day to grab camera-unaware shots of family and guests. It’s also, in most cases, when people are having the most fun (or any fun at all). So why not stick around and capture these moments.

Here is an image I have been meaning to share for quite sometime. Taken in the late fall of 2016, this is a portrait of my lovely Aunt and Godmother shortly after marrying her wonderful husband. My Aunt is inspiring as they come; she has more inner strength than anyone I know. It’s both and reassuring and uplifting to see how my Aunt has overcome tragedy and hardship with such positivity and resiliency; taking her down a path that led her to the moment captured here.
As this was late fall, much of the fall foliage had passed us by. Fortunately there was a little patch of fall colour remaining, located besides the church where the ceremony took place. Thanks to the compression of my telephoto lens we were able to frame the happy newlyweds surrounded by the last vestiges of fall colour. The rest of the scene needed very little directing.

Weddings are rife with moments that do not include the usual suspects. One of the moments I keep an eye out for are grandparents having fun with the little ones.

In this scene, I was fortunate to spot both sets of grandparents enjoying the company of their grandkids. It was important to frame the scene from a low perspective, giving the grandparents stature despite being in the background of the image.

One thing about wedding photography that generally gets little notice is that it can involve working in varying extremes in weather and temperatures. Michelle and Michael’s fantastic wedding took place in August of 2019 at beautiful Hernder Estate Wines. Temperatures were pushing 35 to 40 degrees when humidity was factored. Hence the happy newlyweds and my photography team were only too happy to take a few moments to photograph inside the estate’s chilled wine cellars.

This photo involved two off camera lights, with an assistant standing behind Michelle and Michael providing some rim light.

While it’s always an honour to capture anyone’s wedding day, being asked to photograph a family member’s wedding is always a source of personal pride and confidence for me as a working photographer. So I was thrilled when my cousin Genna and her fiancé Jamie asked me to photograph their wedding.

FIRST IMAGE: My beautiful cousin Genna poses for a portrait in her hotel room before departing for the ceremony. Even after a bride her five bridesmaids tear apart a hotel room getting ready, there’s still always a place for a timeless portrait. All that’s needed is some space and a little window light. Location: Monte Carlo Inn, Barrie

SECOND AND THIRD IMAGE: Taken soon after the ceremony, Genna and Jamie were troopers as temperatures pushed over 30 degrees even in the late afternoon. Location: Arboretum Sunnidale Park, Barrie

FOURTH IMAGE: It’s always important to capture the married couple at the space they have chosen to celebrate. Photographing into the sun creates challenges that can be overcome by either using external lighting, or in this case by taking two exposures and compositing them together as one. It takes a little more work during the editing of the photo but without it the sky would have been blown out. Location: Knights of Columbus Hall, Barrie.

I first met Christina three years prior while photographing her friend’s wedding in Jamaica. Fast forward to 2019 and I was thrilled to honoured with capturing the wedding of Christina and Sheean, two of the most fun people you would ever want to meet. These images were taken during their second engagement session, the first took place the previous fall. Yes, that’s how much photography meant to the happy couple.

These were taken in downtown Hamilton.

FIRST IMAGE: Christina was so committed to capturing the two of them in International Village District she ditched her fabulous but less than comfy shoes and walked barefoot seven to eight blocks to get the shot. This one took some reliance on my days of playing frogger to dodge oncoming traffic.

SECOND IMAGE: Taken in front of Gore Park Fountain in downtown Hamilton, all natural light with my manual focus Zeiss 135mm F2 lens. I would like to take credit for posing Christina and Sheean but this was all them. What a great looking couple!

IMAGE THREE: Taken in downtown Hamilton in front of the City Centre Mall. This image was not staged as friends of Christina and Sheean just happened to be walking by across the street when they yelled out their approval. Shot from below to capture the scene.
