It has officially arrived!

The 2026 Photographic Artist of the Year award from the Professional Photographers of Canada is now home.

Holding this award is a reminder of the years and extensive travels that went into this win, and takes me back to the moment my name was called to receive it.

Thank you to Spartan Media Group for sponsoring this prestigious award. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported my photography along the way.

Canadian Imaging Conference & Expo (CICE) 2026 in Saskatoon last weekend has officially gone into the record books for me.

I was honoured to be invited to speak at this year’s conference, and to formally receive my Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) designation at the Gala Awards that same evening. Two moments I was incredibly proud of, and I was ready to simply enjoy the rest of the night celebrating the best in Canadian photography.

But then… something completely unexpected happened. A formidable goal I’ve been working toward for four years was suddenly realized.

Photographic Artist of the Year 🏆

After four years of PPOC national competitions, and being named a finalist three years in a row… this one means a lot. Not just because of the title, but because of everything that led up to it.

I’m grateful to the PPOC judges for this recognition among such an incredibly strong group of 15 finalists.

And a sincere thank you to Lee and Ria Milliken at Spartan Media Group for sponsoring this award.

What an achievement! I recently entered this refined version of one of my most popular travel images into the 500px/PULSEpx “Spectrum: RED” Global Competition. How could I not with a challenge like that?! This image is of workers arranging bundles of bright red incense sticks as they dry in open air in Quang Phu Cau incense village in Hanoi, Vietnam. The repeating patterns and vivid colour create a striking visual while reflecting traditional craftsmanship and cultural practices associated with Southeast Asian rituals and spirituality. The result: 4th place, just 4% shy of 1st Place. Works for me! So, I immediately published the photo on my 500px profile, and it was almost instantly selected for Editor’s Choice in just a few minutes! It’s good to see timeless images still resonate! Thank you !

Japan in Red Photo Tour 2026 — Free Live Info Session

If photographing Japan during peak autumn colour has ever been on your list, this is for you.

On March 24 at 8:30 PM EDT, I’ll be hosting a free live Zoom information session with world-renowned travel photographer and workshop leader Andy Marty () to introduce our upcoming Japan in Red Photography Tour.

This iconic tour was created by my friend and celebrated landscape photographer Daniel Kordan, who invited me to lead this particular edition knowing how long Japan has been at the top of my list of places to photograph.

Andy has led this Japan itinerary multiple times in recent years, gaining deep familiarity with the locations, timing, and photographic opportunities that make Japan in autumn one of the most extraordinary photography experiences anywhere in the world. I’m excited to be partnering with Andy to lead this adventure together.

During the session we’ll walk you through the experience, the locations we’ll be photographing, and what makes autumn in Japan such a remarkable time to photograph the country.

Our curated itinerary takes us through some of Japan’s most photogenic autumn locations including:

• Mount Fuji / Lake Kawaguchiko
• Kiso Valley
• Kyoto’s iconic temples and gardens
• Mount Kōyasan
• Osaka
..all timed to capture the incredible red and golden colours of peak autumn.

We’ll also cover:

• the premium accommodations and transportation
• the photographic opportunities along the route
• how the tour is structured
• travel logistics and group size
• and answer any questions you might have about joining us.

This session is completely free and there’s absolutely no obligation — it’s simply a chance to learn more about the experience and see if it might be a good fit for you.

Date: March 24, 2026
Time: 8:30 PM EDT
Where: Live on Zoom

Register for the free info session here:

I’m incredibly proud to share that "Alstrom Point of Light" has been selected 500px Editor’s Choice!

This was one of the most hard-won images I’ve ever created.

Reaching this viewpoint meant driving more than 20 miles across a kidney-quivering goat path in a rented 4×4... jagged rock, deep crevasses, and just enough daylight to arrive with enough time to double back before dark. With winds well beyond my drone’s comfort zone, I had barely ten minutes to get airborne and find the composition before racing back across terrain that felt more like Mars-mission than road-trip.

The return almost went smoothly… until a dashboard light caught my eye. The driver-side rear tire dropped to zero.

No cell service. Darkness. Cold wind. Limited fuel and water.

Thanks to satellite SOS and an incredibly skilled Kane County Deputy Sheriff, whose former career was with Kal Tire, we were back on the road within a few hours and safely guided out through complete darkness to the safety of the highway.

Some images come easily.
This one was earned.

Thank you to the 500px Editors for this honour!
