When you photograph a wedding with someone, you get to know them extremely well.

I'm not just talking about the chatting over dinner, or before we fall asleep in our hotel room.

I'm talking about building a connection and comfort level that borders on mind reading.

It becomes a symbiotic relationship, instinctively knowing where each other are at all times; when to pivot as they shift. It's about working together to create something for your clients, but also working together to create something as friends, as a a team.

Callen and I have been shooting together, literally for years. We have that instinct together down.

Kirsten joined our team this past weekend, and she instinctively slid in seemlessly.

Aside from her big, shiny personality, making her a joy to be around - she's a pro at what she does, and a skilled asset on a wedding day.

Our faces light up like children on Christmas as we share techniques, ideas, learning. No matter how long you've been shooting, there is always something to learn. She taught me a few tricks, I taught her a few tricks.

And, together, the three of us made magic.

Thank you Callen Lehman Media, thank you Sees the Day Photography, for the images and video, for the conversation, the laughter, the after wedding impromptu dance party and 2:00 am dinner.

You're both consummate professionals, and I'm deeply grateful.

Another fabulous wedding in the books for the Carla and Kirsten duo! I can’t even express how grateful I am to have Carla in my life as a friend and as a photographer, I feel like every time we are together we are learning something new from each other. The amount of techniques you can learn from another Photographer by just working with them is phenomenal. You really don’t know what you have as valuable skill until you meet another photographer that has no idea what you’re doing but wants to learn! I have taught Carla so much and she has taught me so much. I loved every minute of this weekend’s wedding! Thank you Carla Lehman, you and Callen are amazing to work with!

Today is National Dog Day.

Ramsay is 14 now. He is slowing down, his hips are failing, and he can't hear as well as he used to.

It might be his last summer.

So, we make the best of every moment. We sit together, and we go for walks.

As soon as I ask him for a walk, he's a pup again, barking and jumping, albiet not as high as he used to.

We dont go as far but he loves every moment. Sniffing and inspecting as we go

He is my best friend. Literally. For years, he has been my partner, protector, walking partner. Listener.

I'm not ready. But, neither is he.

Every walk is special. Every quiet evening, watching the sun go down as we sit outside, more precious.

I love you Ramsay, and celebrate you every day.

I'm not going to lie. Writing this made me feel vulnerable — like I was finally saying truths I'd never spoken out loud. Part of me worried it was a disservice to my parents. Like admitting we were less than. We weren't. But butterflies anyway as I share.

So.

Here is to Dolly. Here is to the little girl that was me, dreaming and playing in her wondrous yard, with her sister, her pets, her parents. Oh the joy I felt in our home, until I was taught not to.

We've lost a bright light in the world today.

My earliest memory of Dolly Parton was sitting in the car, waiting for Mom to run into the post office to get the mail.

When she got back to the car, I was sobbing.

My Coat of Many Colors came on the radio, good ol 780 CFCW.

As Dolly sung about the children laughing and making fun of her, my little heart broke for her.

That's about how I feel now.

A little broken hearted for the loss of a grand lady who brought so much good into the world.

Years later, I wanted to learn this on the guitar to play for Mom, but I would burst into tears every time I tried to sing it. But. Maybe. This is my incentive to pick up my guitar and start over.

Is there a Dolly song that means a lot to you?

Jordyn and Duvan celebrated their marriage in the best way possible.

Surrounded by the most important people in their lives.

Their marriage ceremony was blessed by family, by the congregation, and they were prayed over by all in attendance. It was truly beautiful.

We then headed to Country Roads Flower Farm for family, bridal party and bridal portraits. Paula, thank you for opening your flower fields for us, and for letting everyone converge on your yard en masse.

Dinner was a taco bar - talk about delicious! Shout out to bridesmaid Cat who made the wedding cake and cupcakes, and put together the meal - it was incredible.

The reception was held at Tofield arena, which was transformed into an elegant venue. This is a space that holds significant meaning to Jordyn as she grew up figure skating here, it's a place of memories and moments, with new ones to add as a bride.

The night wrapped up with dancing, laughter, and all the little moments that make a wedding day feel like theirs — Jordyn and Duvan surrounded by the community that raised them, in a building that's watched Jordyn grow up and is now part of her love story too.

The couple and their guests also got to try out my new photo booth - a huge success!!

Congratulations, Jordyn and Duvan! Thank you for trusting me with your day — from the ceremony to the flower fields to the arena full of memories, it was such an honour to capture it all. 💜

Yesterday was National Photography Day.

I didn't forget. Instead I was busy doing all the things you do in a day when you have a photography business, scouting locations for two upcoming weddings, meetings, appointments, and of course, a session.

20+ years in, and I still get that same flutter walking up to a family's front step, or watching a horse settle into the light just right.

I've photographed graduates who are now booking me for their weddings.

I've photographed horses and pets for people who treasure their four legged family.

I've told stories for families for years.

I've watched athletes grow up in front of my lens.

I've held cameras through mud, through wind, in the water, through a horse deciding my camera bag looked like a fun toy to gallop with across the pasture.

All of it is a privilege.

Photography isn't the click of a camera. It's the trust someone hands you when they let you into their story.

For me? Photography is love.

So today, a little late but no less true — thank you to every family, every rider, every graduate, every entrepreneur who's let me be part of your legacy.

If you've been meaning to book, this is your sign. Send me a message.

Kailee and Broden wanted to celebrate their engagement at home, on their beautiful acreage with a pond and walking paths through the trees.

Last night, we did just that.

We celebrated their home, which they love dearly. We celebrated them, where the love is so evident to see.

Kailee wore a bright red dress. What a perfect choice, vivid, vibrant, and a stand out in the trees.

Last night was the first time we met, officially, after emails, messages and Zoom. It's always interesting for me to photograph someone I haven't met yet.

Will they be comfortable enough to just be themselves in front of my lens? Will they relax, and fall into the process, into each other? Will they make suggestions, offer ideas?

As you can see in their images, the answer was yes, yes and yes.

We were instantly comfortable together. Chatted about work, about life, about animals.

We talked a lot about mosquitoes. I started out wearing mosquito netting, it was so bad (and they didn't laugh at me), but eventually their Thermacells, and the heat, had me taking it off.

This country girl and city boy have made a life for themselves on their own little patch of heaven in the country.

It's a beautiful life for two Conservation Biology grads who love animals and all things nature.

Congratulations, Kailee and Broden. May your marriage be as strong as your Thermacells, and your love just as evident as it was last night. 💜
