Yesterday I received an email from the Professional Photographers of Canada letting me know that I had earned my 4th MPA Bar. While this is a great achievement that I'm very proud of, I'm a bit conflicted. I'm not required to receive my bar this year. If I choose to receive it, it will use all of my print, service and education merits. I tend to earn print merits much faster than service and especially education merits. So this has me leaning to towards not receiving it until 2027 when I should have more print merits and won't have to use more than the mandatory service and education merits. The other consideration is that I won't be attending the annual convention where the designations are presented this year so I wouldn't be present to recieve it. It's quite likely that I'll be attending next year.

So I have until February 12th to make up my mind. 😵‍💫

Introducing our Canadian Imaging 2026 keynote speaker: Paul Zizka Photography is an award-winning mountain landscape and adventure photographer and photo educator based in Banff, Alberta. A prolific adventurer, Paul's journey to capture the "under-documented" has taken him to all seven continents, as well as to each of Canada's provinces and territories. He is frequently published in some of North America's top magazines, including National Geographic, Wall Street Journal, Alpinist, Maclean's, Summit, Canadian Geographic, and Outdoor Photographer, and has published four coffee-table photography books. His client list includes leading national and global brands such as Canon, Apple, Dell, NHL, WestJet, Arc'Teryx, Panasonic and MEC. In his latest project, Cryophilia, Paul is documenting vanishing ice around the world to showcase its beauty and raise awareness of our changing landscapes.

A sought-after educator, Paul hosts a robust photo community of over 24,000 subscribers on Substack called Fuelled by Creativity. He also leads workshops and creative retreats in the Canadian Rockies and abroad, focusing on the technical aspects of photography, as well as the "intangible" elements of the craft. In 2016, he co-founded OFFBEAT Photography, a global photo community based in Canada that offers an online forum for photographers and workshops in far-flung locations around the world.

Paul enjoys life in the mountains with his wife Meghan J. Ward and their two daughters.
