The sun's back out for now but water levels and flow rates are still expected to rise as rain continues. We urge Edmontonians to keep a safe distance from the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton's stormwater ponds, and other bodies of water during this time.
The North Saskatchewan River is unpredictable and its swift-moving water is relentless, making it unsafe for anyone not properly prepared — especially our pets. We strongly encourage Edmontonians to keep pets leashed on low-lying trails and near water access points as riverbanks may be weak or unstable due to erosion. This is recommended year-round, regardless of water conditions.
Always Remember: If someone or a pet falls into the river or a stormwater pond and is unable to self rescue, do not attempt to rescue them yourself. Call 9-1-1 for assistance and keep an eye on the individual or pet's last known location until our crews can arrive.
