I can't say I'm too up to date on posting photos of the weddings I shot this summer. But I can say that I'm doing fantastic as far as editing is concerned! I don't know if I've ever been late on more than one or two of the deliveries I've made in 300 or so weddings I shot. I'm doing even better this summer even though I shot twice as many as I did last year! That takes quite a bit of pressure off!
It was only a short time before wedding day that Tonya reached out. I was already booked for a wedding that weekend but it was a short one and Tonya was after the same, as far as coverage goes.
Sometimes when I read messages from people looking to hire me i can read between the lines that this is the sort of person i want to shoot a wedding for! One of the biggest indicators of whom my best clients will be is that they start their inquiry with "We love your photos and would love to have you! Are you available?'. When it begins with "How much do your services cost" that usually tells a different story. Not always, but more than enough. Tonya fell far into the first category, thankfully!
Tonya and John's was a backyard wedding. Specifically an Irishtown-Summerside backyard wedding. Hell yeah! Third 'around the bay' wedding for me this summer. And I love them all! The people are beyond down to earth and beyond easy going and they usually have great locations for photos!
And what a back garden this one would happen in! Actually, two beautiful back gardens, right next door to each other with amazing views of the Bay of Islands and Corner Brook across the salt water.
And what is really nice about these quaint little weddings is that I get to know most everyone there. I get to have some great conversations! By the end of the evening instead of me being a paid hand I'm almost more of a guest or friend. And that usually allows me to get better photos as people develop a sort of trust with me. They no longer see me as a stranger come to document their personal moments. When I lift and aim my camera at them they tend not to break character, just smile and continue on like I wasn't there. At larger weddings when you aim a big lens at someone, unless you are sneaky you can almost rest assured the look you get back won't make that desirable photo.
And I tell you one thing, it makes you feel some good when one of the guests (the owner of this beautiful back garden!) basically demands you stop what you are doing, sit down at thier table and have something to eat. I've shot weddings where I wasn't offered any food, even with a 8-10 hour working day. You can imagine how that might make you feel to watch 200 others sit down, relax and eat a meal while you look on half starved!
This one was a feel great wedding from start to last and I'm very happy I didn't say no to Tonya when she wrote! I knew my gut was right!
