Sometimes sunset photos just aren’t in the cards, your venue doesn’t face the right direction, the weather has other plans, or the light disappears before we can sneak away.

But sometimes, you find the light somewhere else and have something that feels even more cinematic than the sunset we were chasing. It’s less about finding the perfect light and more about knowing what to do with the light you’re given🤍

When I was in art school, we talked about the idea of a plinth and how elevating something, even just slightly, can completely change the way we look at it and give it this sense of importance.

I thought about that immediately when taking this photo of McKenzie. She was SO down to hop up on the mooring for me, and without really planning it, it created that exact same effect. She’s elevated just enough that your eye goes straight to her, and with the veil blowing in the wind she almost becomes this little sculpture in the middle of the frame. I love this photo so much I thought it needed its own post.
