Next round of photos from the shoot with Hope. There were a lot of cool shots with other lens combos, but the 24mm look with the single light was a real winner here.

This shoot definitely deserves a couple posts. This one with Hope was a great time - dark location, general idea of what we wanted, but no pre-plan on how to do it. Just a fun couple hours testing out different lighting, lenses, and locations.

From a very fun shoot in January at the recording studio downtown with Steph.
This one was a fun challenge. I was going into an unseen dark location (this studio absolutely rocks) with a few cameras and lights, and trying out as many different setups and looks to get the most out of the space in a limited time. I didn’t want to take the same photo 1000 times, I wanted as many cool variations of the space as we could think of. Putting the lighting, glass, and camera combos to the test, and just having a real fun time getting creative with it all.
Ambient floor lamps for a halo plus two OCF lights? Sure. Red stage lights? Yep, put them in every scene. Backlight with a gel? Hell, why not. Temu blue sword? Hell, put that in frame too.

Somehow, I’ve never done an intro post here.

I’m Evan, a photographer based in CBS, NL. I enjoy shooting generally every photography discipline, but my favourite by far is environmental portraits - whether that’s shooting weddings all over, documenting the work of Team Broken Earth on their international medical missions, or creative fashion/modelling shoots closer to home; If it involves real people in real places, I’m probably stoked.

I also usually spend some time every year chasing whale breaches and eagles. You’ll usually find me at my most stoked on the way out to Trinity for a few trips every year for my annual pilgrimage to hang out on a zodiac and pray that the whales go flying.

When I’m not shooting photos, I’m a huge type 2/3 fun kind of guy. Mountain climbing, hikes and long trail runs, or travelling to chase the next cool adventure with my wife and now recently my newborn son!

An incredible wedding day with Mason and Michaela. I photographed them having the time of their lives running around St. John’s and surrounding areas for fun moments and adventures; from lunches in blue glad bags to make sure no sauces got on the dress, to asking a kind man if we can take some photos with his awesome old Porsche, before hiking on the east coast trail for some more coastline shots. A very fun day with incredible people.

From an absolutely magical wedding day in Brigus with Amy and Dave. From their private vows breakfast to their first dance with the whole party, it was a gorgeous day with a very fun crowd.

Things I love when shooting weddings, part 2!
If there is a veil involved, I’m already excited, and I’m absolutely getting in there for a few shots. With every little breeze and change in lighting, the shot totally changes, and I have so much fun with the unique look that comes out of every veil.

Ramping up now for the start of my 2025 wedding season - I made a conscious approach to shoot mostly fall weddings this year, and I can’t wait to shoot in a few different towns and locations that I’ve never been to, with some very fun couples.

I’ve been taking the time to look back through and think about what I really love shooting during wedding days. I’ll do a few posts on this, but first up is couples portraits next to rivers or the ocean. Coastline views are endless here in NL, and I always get excited to plan out what a coastal shoot could look like - especially if the weather isn’t perfect and there’s a big swell on.
