A couple fantastic tail sequences from a sunset cruise this week with Wild Avalon Expeditions , including some pretty unique sunset lens flares. We left Bay Bulls, and almost immediately found and followed a group of 4 whales north as they slowly moved along the rocky cliffs, and made it almost as far up as the Spout before almost running out of light and travelling back to the harbour. Sunset/sunrise whale adventures still remain as one of my favourite things to shoot and experience - looking forward to getting back out again soon.

After a very busy few months, it’s finally time for me to get caught up on posting some photo work! This was from about 6 weeks ago with best pals Phil and Victoria, as we ran around the coast for a fun lil impromptu engagement session. We were driving back towards St. John’s with a different location in mind, but there was no way I was going to resist stopping to shoot some great stuff while staring straight into the sun.

What an epic dawn patrol for eagles this morning. None of these photos are cropped in apart from straightening - that’s how close the eagle flew. Also managed to find a humpback momma and calf pair, with a lil tail lob from the calf!

After a few years of trying to line up getting to an eagle trip like this, it finally worked out and did not remotely disappoint. Leaving the dock at 5am, It took a few frigid hours with about a half dozen uninterested eagles before we finally found one that was active and chasing some fish, resulting in 4 quick but very solid sequences.

Next round of photos from the shoot with Hope. There were a lot of cool shots with other lens combos, but the 24mm look with the single light was a real winner here.

This shoot definitely deserves a couple posts. This one with Hope was a great time - dark location, general idea of what we wanted, but no pre-plan on how to do it. Just a fun couple hours testing out different lighting, lenses, and locations.

From a very fun shoot in January at the recording studio downtown with Steph.
This one was a fun challenge. I was going into an unseen dark location (this studio absolutely rocks) with a few cameras and lights, and trying out as many different setups and looks to get the most out of the space in a limited time. I didn’t want to take the same photo 1000 times, I wanted as many cool variations of the space as we could think of. Putting the lighting, glass, and camera combos to the test, and just having a real fun time getting creative with it all.
Ambient floor lamps for a halo plus two OCF lights? Sure. Red stage lights? Yep, put them in every scene. Backlight with a gel? Hell, why not. Temu blue sword? Hell, put that in frame too.
