2007 — the first time I met Martin Gallant.
I was out with Pascal and a crew heading into the Callaghan valley when Pascal’s sled ran into some trouble. I volunteered to tow him back to the trucks as the rest of the crew carried on with their day, and when we made it to the parking lot he said, “Don’t worry I’m calling my brother he will come and take you to get some shots”
Martin comes flying into the parking lot wearing jeans and a plaid and immediately starts changing into his gear…
“Thanks so much for bringing my brother out,” he said. “We are going to get some shots…Don’t worry I know all the spots and all the jumps we will kill it.” All delivered with so much stoke and in his classic accent.
Martin and I rallied up the road, across the lake, and after a few minutes of climbing in the trees he stops and says, “Wait here, I’ll go hit that.” THen he scrambles to the top of a cliff and pops a perfect Method….first shot of the day, first shot of Martin, ends up running full page in Snowboard Canada.
We got a few more shots that day but the rest of the time he helped me dig out my old Yamaha Viper, with words of wisdom with each shovel full.
Every photo I have of that guy has an awesome story behind it, come and celebrate a life well lived on Sunday April 26th at the Chateau Whistler.
