Have you ever wondered if your chaotic life was worth photographing? Read this entire post to find out!

I recently tested remote photography with Zoë, a beloved client I’ve had the joy of photographing multiple times since 2022.

As this was a test session, there were some app limitations and I had to deliver her gallery in low resolution. Not exactly ideal! Thankfully, future remote sessions will be delivered in high resolution.

Still, as soon as she saw the photos, she sent me this message:

“Oh Marie! Low resolution or not, they are soooo perfect! I miss having you in our home! Thank you for capturing these! I absolutely love them all!”

A little later, she shared a reel from the session along with the sweetest testimonial.

You won’t be able to view it on her private Instagram profile, but I’ve included it here. Go all the way to the last image for a glimpse of the photos we created together.

Thank you so much Zoë! It’s always such a pleasure to be around your family!

A storytelling photo session with me isn’t complete without a beautiful art book to hold those memories.

This one brings together four sessions over the course of a year.

One family.
One mother celebrating a milestone year.
One year of growth, love, and everyday moments that matter.

At the end of the year, all those chapters come together in a keepsake designed to be revisited, shared, and cherished for years to come.

This is part of my Heartfelt Chapters membership. Have you heard about it?

Life changes quickly. The perfect time to document it is now.

Sometimes, in my motherhood project, I come up with concepts that are difficult to photograph with participants. When that happens, I get in front of the camera.

I had so much fun creating a series of self portraits in heels and water last summer. It even became a fun show to watch for some of the people that were around me at the time!

Fun times! I love art!

I was recently going through my client archives when I stumbled upon this session from a few years ago. A family getting ready to move away from Edmonton. They wanted to hold on to memories of the places they loved most here, so we spent the morning wandering around the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market before hopping aboard the High Level Bridge Streetcar.

The result? Quiet, joy-filled images of a family simply spending time together and soaking in some of their favourite Edmonton spots one last time. For privacy reasons, I can’t share much from their session, but it was such a lovely one to photograph.

And honestly, if you’re looking for documentary family photo session ideas in Edmonton, this is a pretty good one. Start at the market, grab something delicious to eat (or a melting, finger-licking-good ice cream), then take a ride on one of Edmonton’s historic streetcars. I also recently learned there’s a museum you can visit too: the High Level Bridge Streetcar Museum.

If you’re worried about feeling awkward during a family session or unsure what to do with yourselves, planning an activity like this makes everything feel so much more natural.

Anyway... I’m ready for a streetcar ride any time you are!

I’m looking for pregnant women and mothers in their first year postpartum to participate in a long-term photography project exploring the many transformations of motherhood.

Through conversation and photography, this project creates space for women to share their stories and reflect on their journey through motherhood. It will eventually evolve into a public exhibition.

Selected participants will receive a complimentary photo session and one edited digital image of their choice, with the option to purchase additional images if desired.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you!

This pretty much sums up how I felt after this quick and easy remote photo session!

Seeing and photographing that family after what seemed like such a long time, and doing a first round of culling and photo editing gave me a pure breath of fresh air this morning. The joy on the kids’ faces was so uplifting!

Any families in need of that kind of feeling? Reach out to book your spring or summer photo session. I swear you won’t regret it!

“You’re never not a mom now... I can’t go back to the life that I had, the experience that I had. Of course, I can still travel. I can still do these things, but it is forever in a different lens. So it’s just this transformation as a being that you can’t reverse in any way. You are now a mom and forever you will be in it.” — Erin

How has motherhood transformed you?

Where does time go when you have little ones?

Time is one big change women mention when I interview them for my motherhood project. What big changes are you experiencing as a mom?

(EN) When I sat down with Amy to talk about her motherhood journey, she shared something beautiful: she has written a song about generations—how self-esteem and self-image pass from mother to daughter.

Amy’s own childhood experience was tough, but she has chosen a new path for her daughter, breaking the cycle of generational trauma. That’s one heck of a motherhood change!

During our interview, I couldn’t help but tear up when she had me read the lyrics and listen to “Un nouveau chemin”, the song she wrote for her daughter. That’s when we decided it would become the heart of our photo session together.

You can listen to .rebelle’s song on all major streaming platforms: https://bfan.link/nouveau-chemin
