A huge congratulations to all the students graduating from High School this month! Witnessing the grads (and the proud parents) celebrating their graduation this year at Safe Grad was such a beautiful thing to be part of. While I’ve captured several weddings at the farm here, this was the first prom I’ve shot and I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect.

I’ve said it many times before, but I’m still so impressed with the kinds of lovely human beings that I have had the pleasure of watching grow up here. What a great group!

This is just a small fraction of the hundreds of photos from the gallery. Some of my favourite photos are the groups of friends and classmates posing for photo memories of the celebration together (which I’m not sharing without being able to make sure I have permission from everyone in them). Definitely a lot of fun was had!

The florals decorating the GISS Safe Grad were absolutely stunning! Here’s a little peek at them. The people responsible for these deserve some serious props for such fabulous work. 👏

There were many growers that the parent committee who organized the event purchased bulk flowers from. Julie Kubik was the parent volunteer who had the vision and built the design esthetic. It was Julie and Alisha Victoria (another parent volunteer) who put together the beautiful arrangements. Didn’t they do a fantastic job?!

✨A selection gallery of all possible images to choose your favourites from, slightly edited with basic starting settings that I carefully create to best fit your specific gallery. (For weddings and some other projects, I provide editing and delivery of every image that would be in the selection gallery.)

More moss (and lichen), please. You can never have too much moss. Story time.

There was a magnificent hill of boulders I was once frolicking on, that the moss was so thick it felt like what I always imagined walking on a cloud would feel like. Pure heaven for my feet! Not gonna lie, I think about that mossy spot often. It was just spectacular. (Even though I also accidentally stepped on a snake - don’t worry, it wasn’t a hard step and I don’t think I did any damage, other than startling my fellow forest friends with a scream of slithery sole-tickling surprise.)

Anyhow, that’s my moss story. What’s yours? We don’t talk about the wonders of moss enough. We should change that.

An evening at the ocean is exactly what I needed. Joined by a hunting osprey (blurry, but can you see it caught something?), a flock of geese, some big birds (eagles?) chasing each other, and flitting bats. (PS - That’s the best slow-mo of the bats I could get at the end. I’m keen to go back and try again - so cool, those little creatures.)

I’ll take a playful adventure with an inquisitive, strong, and beautifully spirited child and their family any day.

Do I offer posing suggestions? You bet! Do I also follow the lead of the beings within the photos I’m taking, and capture their authentic moments of joy and wonder and connection? Absolutely.

The best sessions are always a lovely mix of freedom of expression, and artistic direction as needed. We can do both when we tell your stories through my lens. These are your stories to tell, and the best magic often happens in just being together, documenting what arises naturally. I’m just here to craft the imagery with the best framing possible. ✨

I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this month and getting to see their earliest blooms (the Spanish lavender) attracting the bees. I was pleasantly surprised that my wild snapping actually managed to grab some of these fuzzy little honeybees (rather than using the advice I later gained, to frame a photo around a flower and wait for a bee). Check out the pollen sacs on some of these!
