I left a bee picture out of my last post, so here it is, with a couple more flowers so the post has more than just one picture. (I read somewhere that the FB algorithms favor posts with more than one picture. Don't know if it's true.)

Anyway, yet another bee and a couple of flowers from Salmo, British Columbia, Canada.

Just a few local scenes. Click on the individual pictures for more information about each picture, including settings.

Nothing fancy in any of these. No masks, filters, or fancy processing. The only extra layers come from adding the copyright and signature, which is then flattened to make a jpeg for posting. The resolution is always reduced for posting.

Thanks for looking! The infamous FB algorithm apparently doesn't distribute my posts very far, so I'm always happy to see reactions. You can even tell me if you think they're mediocre or boring.

Smoky in Salmo, British Columbia again this morning (August 7). Photos taken at 8:55am.

These are the same image. One is just a crop of the other. Note the spider webs in the trees, including one that looks like it goes right into the sun.

Z6iii, 180-600@430mm, f/22, 1/1600s, ISO-100, exp. bias -2, WB 7500K. No filters.

Processed from raw in NX Studio, watermarks added and cropped (2nd picture) in Photoshop Elements.

I am the featured artist at Cowan's Art Supplies in Nelson, BC for the month of August. I have 18 prints on various media, including canvas, graphic art board, metal and acrylic. The sizes range from as small as12x16 inches up to 20x30 inches. Both framed and unframed prints are shown. All have the necessary hanging hardware.

All prints are for sale, with information and pricing provided for each print.

As you enter Cowan's, look to the left, above the copy machines. Yes, there are copy machines. It's a store, not an art gallery!

We had a lot of wildfire smoke in Salmo, British Columbia, Canada yesterday (August 1). Fortunately, the fires themselves stayed away, at least so far. We have at least a couple months of fire season yet to go.

The pictures below were taken around 6:30pm PDT. I bracketed over several stops and found I liked the darker ones better. With a 1 or even 2 stop negative exposure bias, the sun became a brilliant red/orange and the trees became silhouettes framing the sun.

Nikon Z6iii, a couple different lenses and various focal lengths, and, as noted above, significant negative exposure bias.

Processed from raw with Nikon NX Studio, watermarks added and downsized for online use with Photoshop Elements. Not cropped.

Meadowhawk skimmer dragonfly.

Z6iii, 105mm macro, f/11, 1/250, ISO-400, exp. bias -0.3, 3D focus, subject recognition off, handheld. I turn off subject recognition for things like flowers and bugs because it causes the focus square to bounce around looking for something it recognizes. I use 3D because the focus will follow the chosen spot once I've achieved focus.

Tiny spider working on prey bigger than itself. This spider was only about 1/4" (6mm) long. I had the macro focused as close as it would go, but I obviously had to crop out most of the original image to get what I've posted.

Even though I only have 24 Mp to start with, I think that the processing software has done a pretty good job of rescuing what was left of this image. Of course, for posting online, I turned around and created an even lower resolution file to reduce file size. FB doesn't really do it any favors, either. If you click on it to make it full screen and then zoom further, you'll see it's not completely crisp.

It's not what you would call a pretty picture!

Z6iii, 105mm Z macro, f/16, 1/1600s, ISO-1600, exp. bias -1.3, handheld.

Processed from raw with NX Studio, including sharpening and WB adjustment, cropped in Photoshop Elements, upscaled, sharpened and denoised in Topaz, returned to Elements for addition of watermark and downscaling for posting.
