Our whole panel of photography judges was impressed with the clever, illustrative realisation of Melissa's concept.

She shared: "I learned that I cant 'fix' people, or myself. 'Your brain doesn't make the right chemicals, so it doesn't make the connections needed to be happy' is my life story.

My choice of becoming a mechanic stems from the helpless feeling of being 'unfixable'. If I can't fix me, what can I fix? Often when doing electrical work, I find myself wishing I was able to rewire my brain to work right. I wonder what it would be like to finally hook up the 'right wire' and feel ok. But mental health doesn't work that way, and I'm stuck unfixable."

"Sometimes It Feel's Like I Have Been "Mentally ill" Longer Than I Have Been Anything Else In My Life.

Always Falling Into A New Category Of Stigma
Telling Me How To Respond With My Illness & Greif,
As Well As What Is Acceptable For A Person Like Me.
After A Lifetime Of Society Telling Me What " Mask " I Should Wear ...
I Am At The End Of My Rope, I Am Tired & I Can Feel The Mask Society Has Tried To Paint Me In Cracking & Fading Away."
