🐦 Bee Hummingbird – The World’s Smallest Bird

At just 5 centimeters long and weighing about 1.8 grams, the bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae) holds the title of the tiniest bird on Earth. Native to Cuba, this miniature marvel is smaller than a human fingertip — yet it beats its wings up to 80 times per second and can visit over 1,500 flowers a day in search of nectar.

Its size may be tiny, but its role in nature is mighty. As it feeds, it pollinates flowers, helping ecosystems thrive. Despite its delicate appearance, it’s a strong, fast, and essential pollinator in its tropical habitat.

It reminds us that even the smallest creatures can have an extraordinary impact. ✨🌸

📍 Fact: Its nest is no bigger than a ping-pong ball!

At least 6,000 years old, the rock carvings at Alta, Norway, were carved into bedrock using stone chisels and depict a wide range of imagery, including reindeer, elk, fish, birds, boats, hunting scenes, ritual figures, geometric patterns, and bear tracks. There have been more than 6,000 individual carvings have been identified across several sites in Alta Municipality, with the largest concentration at Jiepmaluokta. The carvings were first discovered in 1973 and the site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. 🤩 Special thanks: Andreas Haldorsen, CC BY-SA 3.0 https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=873927302175805&set=a.141304048771471

BLOOMS ONCE IN IT'S LIFETIME.... THEN DIES. The Haleakalā silversword, found only on the high slopes of Maui’s Haleakalā volcano is a rare alpine plant that blooms just once in its lifetime. For decades, it waits in silence, its shimmering silver leaves gathering sunlight in the thin mountain air. Then, without warning and only once in its life, it blooms. According to National Park Service, this event typically occurs after 20 to 50 years though some may flower as early as 7 years depending on environmental conditions. This final act of beauty lasts only about seven days. 😍 - via Nancy Guevara https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=890259363832425&set=gm.1500567194831113&idorvanity=551696956384813
