Four paramedics.
One overdose.
One more day at the office.
Funny how nobody asks who’s employed by SHA or a private ambulance service and who’s employed by a fire department when someone stops breathing.
The patient doesn’t care.
The family doesn’t care.
The overdose sure doesn’t care.
What matters is that highly trained professionals show up and do everything possible to save a life.
Yet Saskatchewan continues to pay many SHA paramedics and privately run services significantly less than firefighter-paramedics doing similar medical work.
Same cardiac arrests.
Same overdoses.
Same trauma.
Different paycheck.
This isn’t a shot at firefighters. They deserve every dollar they earn as well as the police.
It’s just a reminder that paramedics do too.
Because when your loved one is lying on the ground, the last thing on your mind is who signs the paycheque of the person trying to save them.
Never forget there is a human behind the uniform.
