Tonight, the sky above Sandy Bay reminded me of something we all need to remember: darkness never gets the final word.

No matter where you are in the world or what you may be going through, there is still beauty to be found, light waiting to break through, and hope ahead.

Look up once in a while. We all stand beneath the same sky, and none of us are as alone as we sometimes feel.

I’m proud to share When the Sky Danced, the first book in my new Under the Northern Lights series.

This series is being created for children across Canada, with special attention given to the experiences, strengths, cultures, and voices of First Nations, Indigenous, and Métis youth.

At the heart of these stories are respect, kindness, courage, cultural pride, strong values, and hope.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of living and working in northern communities and learning from Elders, families, and young people. Those experiences have helped shape the way I understand the North and the stories I want to tell.

I live in the North. I work in the North. I know the North.

My goal is to create stories that feel honest and recognizable—stories that reflect the young people, families, communities, and landscapes I have come to know.

When the Sky Danced is only the beginning. Future books in the Under the Northern Lights series will continue to share meaningful stories inspired by northern life, culture, community, and the remarkable young people who call the North home.
