Anyone travelling along the Highway 16 or Highway 43 corridor today west and northwest of Edmonton should be extra vigilant at keeping an eye to the sky late this afternoon into the early evening hours.

These storms will grow upscale quickly and be fast moving, but they are also going to pack a serious punch in them as well.

Ahh yes, late July in Alberta. The last kick at the can for severe weather. And this week has some interesting convective weather setups, beginning this afternoon with severe weather in and around the Edmonton metro area that will set the stage for even more severe weather tomorrow along parts of the Yellowhead Corridor and Highway 43 west and northwest of Edmonton.

Damaging winds, heavy downpours, hail ranging anywhere from ping-pong ball to tennis ball sized and a high chance of the T-Word or two are all in play.

Did you know that July 31st falls on a Friday this year? Also something to keep in mind for later this week.

A break in the clouds from passing storms offers me a glimpse of the Noctilucent clouds over the North Saskatchewan River this morning. Magnificent as always to see in the northern sky.

OH HAIL NO! The atmosphere is ripe for the plucking today for the 50,000 storm clout chasers that are willing to go for it.

While the T-word risk has been downgraded and confined to areas east of Red Deer to the Saskatchewan border, the main threats today will be golf ball to tennis ball sized hail and damaging winds as storms grow upscale later this afternoon into this evening.

May the odds be ever in your favor today.
