2026 looked a little different for me.

With the arrival of my third and last baby, I decided to take on a slower wedding season. Which also meant I had the opportunity to second shoot more weddings than I normally would.

And I didn’t realize how much I needed that.

Being a second photographer gave me a kind of creative freedom I hadn’t experienced in a while. Without the usual responsibilities of leading a wedding day, I could spend more time observing, experimenting, and photographing things simply because they caught my attention.

It brought me back to what made me fall in love with wedding photography in the first place. The documentary side of it. The unplanned moments, the people, the things happening in between everything else.

I think social media has made it incredibly easy to get caught up in how a wedding should look. The aesthetics, the trends, the pressure to create something visually impressive. And as a photographer, I’ve definitely found myself caught up in that too.

But somewhere along the way, I was reminded that photographs aren’t supposed to dictate how a wedding unfolds. They’re supposed to help us remember how it actually felt to be there.

I still love beautiful compositions, interesting light, and everything that comes with creating visually compelling photographs. I just don’t want those things to become more important than the people and the moments themselves.

This season gave me the space to figure out what I love about my work again, and what I want to explore moving forward. And I’m really excited to seeing where that takes me.

2026 gifted me the chance to meet Laurence, who was looking for a wedding photographer for her aunt.

And that’s how I met Johanne and Arthur.

At 75 and 83, after both losing their partners, two neighbours who had spent years watching their families grow on the same street decided to get married.

They had already been part of each other’s lives for years. Their families knew each other. They showed up for one another. And when Arthur’s wife became sick, Johanne was there for both of them.

Somewhere along the way, their friendship became something more.

What struck me most about them was how easy their love seemed. No big performance. Just two people genuinely happy to have found each other, excited to spend whatever comes next together.

They got married surrounded by people who had already shared so much of their lives. The same people were there, watching them begin this completely unexpected chapter together.

I don’t know that there needs to be a bigger message than that.
I don’t think every story needs to become a lesson about love.

I just think theirs is a really beautiful one.

Two neighbours.
Two lives that had already been very full.
Two people who knew what it meant to lose someone they loved, who somehow found something new without erasing anything that came before it.

And I got to be there to photograph it.

Pretty special way to spend a Saturday.

A passing glance, a little movement, a room before it fills. The kind of things I always find myself looking for, the little things worth keeping.

THE GROOM.

You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera.
That part is mine.

A little direction when you need it, space when you don’t. We move, we try things, we let the environment do some of the work.

The goal is never to make you perform for the photograph just to create something that still feels like you.

Sometimes up close, sometimes from a little further away. What’s happening in the middle of it all, and everything orbiting around it.
