Thought I’d show a comparison of northern lights as seen in southern VS northern BC. As you can see, in the north the lights are closer - like you are right in them. Still beautiful in the south if it is a significant solar event. In the north during the northern lights season these light shows can be nightly. Also when viewed by eye(not camera) the lights in the north show more colour than in the south.

Had to share this ‘blast from the past’ photo I took one morning in Fort Nelson, BC in 2017. I Always hear people wanting to go to Iceland or Norway to see the northern lights, yet they are amazing in our own backyard.

Just headed out on an epic road trip to see some of the US National parks. First stop is Waterton Park, Alberta. This park is connected to Glacier National Park in Montana - our next stop. Waterton was decimated by forest fire a few years ago, but just a different kind of beauty now.

Just spent 4 days on Quadra Island, BC in Main Lake Provincial Park. Beautiful back country camping with a chain of lakes you can paddle through. Also a beautiful hike to the ocean if you’re missing the salt water! Other than having a camping area all to ourselves, and glassy mirror water, the thing I appreciated the most were the loons. I’ve only ever seen one or two loons at a time. On Main Lake we counted 28 in one flock. Beautifully noisy!!

There are some "must do" activities when visiting Northern Vancouver Island. Number one on my list is to take a whale watching tour. Today we saw a number of humpbacks - no orcas in the area yet. Was an ok tour, until one of the humpbacks decided it needed to check us out. The boat operator kept within the designated distance from the female humpback known as "Black Pearl" but she approached us from the side and ultimately dived under our boat. Believe me, the adrenaline flows when you have this huge mammal coming directly at you! So grateful for this experience.

Just returned from four fantastic days at the Broken Group Islands with Adventuress Sea Kayaking and 10 amazing women. With this group we completed Level 1 paddling certification, navigation skills and some essential camping skills - all in one of the best kayaking destinations in the world.

August long weekend coming up...I'm heading to Alert Bay to do the "Alert Bay 360". This is a race around Comorant Island - 11 km with approx 150 other paddlers. These are some flash back pics from Alert Bay in 2018. Hopefully some more pics to come from this year's race.
