We gave Big Lonely Doug a visit (and a much needed hug - I look minuscule at the base of this giant). This 1,000 year-old Douglas fir is apparently the second largest in Canada. Worth the pilgrimage to see the nearby old growth stand.

Assorted shorebirds eating sand spaghetti. There were so many of these little guys - western sand pipers, dunlin and ring-necked plovers slurping up all the little sand worms. It was worth rolling around in the sand on my belly to get the shots - even Bear got down low!

But every jolt and buzz is worth it. Lions on the hunt, elephants ambling through open grasslands, and big cat encounters that will leave you breathless — this trip gave us everything we dreamed of, and so much more.
