Three years ago, I started a coffee table book project.

The idea was simple: photograph dogs in my community, tell their stories, and create something truly special.

But I also wanted to create an experience that went beyond a traditional portrait session. Something different. Something that would set my photography business apart.

Each dog gets their own story, beautiful portraits, and a place in a published coffee table book that their family can treasure forever.

What started as a personal project has now become an ever-growing part of my business. It continues to introduce me to new clients, connect me with my community, and give people a reason to choose my studio.

Three years later, I’m now starting Volume 4!

It’s one of the things that makes my photography business different, and honestly, one of the most rewarding things I do.

Things I wish I knew sooner as a photographer…

Buying more props won’t bring you more clients.

Buying more backdrops won’t bring you more clients.

Buying more filters won’t bring you more clients.

Buying expensive gear won’t bring you more clients.

But you know what WILL help bring you clients?

Creating projects that get you noticed.

Collaborating with businesses that share your ideal audience.

Building relationships within your community.

Getting your work in front of the right people with the right messaging.

Improving your craft is important, of course. But it’s better marketing and promotion that grow your business.

Finn and Ella recently had their professional portraits taken, and soon, those portraits will have a place on their family’s walls. ❤️

We take more photos than ever before, yet so many of them end up forgotten on our phones.

I think we’ve lost a little of what photographs used to mean to us. There’s something special about walking into a room and seeing the faces of those you love every single day.

A reminder of who matters most and how lucky we are to have them in our lives.

Some photographs deserve to be seen, not just stored.

It’s all about the eyes. 🤎🐾

The soul comes through the eyes. As dog photographers, our job is to capture that connection, that expression, that little something that makes every dog unique.

There are a few reasons why I don’t send online galleries to my clients.

Protecting my images. With AI making it easier than ever to remove watermarks, that’s certainly one good reason.

I’m running a business. I don’t want to wait two weeks, six weeks, six months, or even a year for clients to place their orders. I need to know what revenue is coming in and when.

But here’s the MOST important reason:

I don’t want to leave my clients on their own to make these decisions.

They’ve invested in a professional photography experience, and I believe guiding them through their image selection is part of that service.

During our reveal and ordering appointment, we experience their portraits together for the first time. We revisit what we discussed during their consultation, explore how they want to enjoy their images, answer questions, discuss changes, and build collections together.

I want to be part of that moment, witness their reactions, and help them make decisions they feel confident and excited about.

It’s a better experience for my clients AND a better business model for me.

Photographers, I’m curious! Do you send online galleries and let clients choose on their own, or do you offer guided reveal and ordering appointments?
