Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day Two - Another Fine Festival

Good morning music community, today I bring you (at long last) the final piece of this year's festival with returning deathprog legends from Saskatchewan (this time with 100% more Stu Block) Into Eternity along with the absolute cherry on top, Baltimore death/grindcore masters Dying Fetus. 28 bands, 1068 posted photos. Whew.

There is a little bit more to come, as soon as I finish them up. See you all next year.

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day Two - Journey Towards Darkness
Taking us into the evening were two Alberta technical metalcore artists Art of Attrition (Red Deer) and Wych (Calgary). Switching gears, we had the final performance from Armstrong's own viking thrash/power metal chaps ODINFIST, giant beach balls and the wizard made their return along with the crowd chanting the familiar chorus from We Are Gods (of Valhalla). And the final of these four were an Oregonian progressive band that I was introduced to earlier this year: VINTERSEA

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day Two -The Afternoon Crew.
The next batch of four brought the return of Gregorious (Kamloops), Brain Stem (Edmonton), The Judge the Juror (also Edmonton) and Nameless King (Vancouver). Death metal was present, electric bagpipes were played, and chairs were swung in this leg of the festival. I'm really not sure why some FB profiles have the name in the URL and some do not, it makes it really hard to link the band profile.

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day Two - The Brunch Club
Right after the Beer Helmet March, Kelowna's The Collapse took to the stage to wake up the sleepy campers. Up next was Edmonton's Daniel Martin & The Infamous, Kamloops' reigning metal dipsh*ts (their words) Broken Crow and Victoria's black metal savages Empalement. I know that black metal is traditionally covered in B&W, but how can you feel the impact of blood without colour?

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day One - The Final Chapter
For the grand finale of the first day of the festival we had two returning artists. Cyborg Octopus was a festival favourite who visited just a couple years previously and impressed everyone with their wacky track suit clad antics and intense progressive madness. Featuring dueling singers, saxophone, and keytar on top of the usual foundation of any decent metal band. Rivers of Nihil returned to AMF for the first time since 2016 and are a very different band now. An enhanced and improved lineup and a couple more albums under their belt, they brought their flavour of progressive death metal to the masses, this time also with their live saxophone player Patrick Corona (of Cyborg) for a couple songs. What a way to close out night one!

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day One - The Third Quarter
As we descend into the evening the next four bands pounded us with lyrics, riffs and performances that prepared us for the final two of the night. Lycanthro (Ottawa) brought out the wolf in their power metal performance. Vancouver's heavy metal veterans Iron Kingdom showed us that heavy metal will never die. Nott (Seattle) showed the crowd that 2 people really can create the heaviest sound known to humanity and Fervence introduced us to their progressive flavour of sound full of anger followed by intense vulnerability.

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 Day One - The Diverse Four.
The second four artists were a very diverse grouping of styles. We had metal/death/hardcore troupe Die Another Day (Calgary), Black Metal savages Frosthymn (Calgary), the enchanting power metal sounds of SYRYN (Calgary), and the shredding thrash goodness of W.M.D. (Vancouver)

Armstrong MetalFest - AMF 2026 - The Lucky First Four

The opening act this year was Vernon's Skeksis who drew out a much larger crowd than any other band I've seen opening the festival. This year was definitely going to be a bit different, as this "little" festival goes through another growth spurt. Up next was Nelson's Shotgun Divine, Kelowna's Muscle Crowe and also from Kelowna: Pharm's progressive chaos.

And here we are, folks. The final piece of the puzzle. Iron Kingdom pulled out all the stops with lights and action and new tunes from their newest release 'Shadows and Dust'. I hope you all enjoy these and I'll see you again soon!
