Next thing you know we were invited to a wedding in Bawiti, I mean everyone was invited and almost everyone showed up. There was lots of Bedouin music, the fire juggler (pictured here) kids and adults, men and woman, boys and girls. All twirling all enchanted by the desert sky, the smell of coal sh**ha goat and dates. There were no lavish gifts expected, no wedding planners or catering companies. It was all it seemed, the extended family, a kind of tribal happiness and inclusion that I hadn’t witnessed before, and probably never will it be seen again. These were times BC - before cellular - no one was worried about followers or likes, things weren’t Instagramable, or judged or liked or not liked…oh goodness - yes the irony!

While at Uni a group of us studying photo arts took a trip down the Nile. Certain things we learned of value: Learn a little (or more) of the local language. Bring gifts to exchange. Respect local laws and customs. Purchase fishing vests or other photo journalist type attire if you want to enter the “forbidden tombs” and hang with an Egyptologist for a few days.

Cuba was awarded top prize in food sustainability by the WHO during their previous “special period”. We can all learn something from each other if we choose to listen. These farmers were working under the hot sun in field, picking cassava. Reminded me of when I was their age, in the sun picking fu***ng rocks all day. We only had baseball hats. Looking back, I was never before in such good shape or appreciative of the food I ate.
