It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done a “get to know me,” and to be honest, a lot has gone on.

My name is Hillary, and I’m a BC wedding photographer. When I’m not documenting your favourite moments, I’m out creating my own with my favourite people. 

Over the last couple of years, I’ve done an Oregon Coast road trip, explored Leslie Gulch, car camped up and down Vancouver Island with my Ontario-born partner, who had never seen it before, played in cities, across beaches, showed my son and partner some of my favourite places, hiked mountains, and have really just soaked in the beauty of life.

I spent a year working an entry-level job in social services with at-risk youth, which led me to go back to school to get my BSW because I needed to be able to make even more of a difference. Now I get to spend the next few years splitting the time between full-time school and full-time wedding photography (it’s kind of a dream).

I’ve spent the last year embracing what it means to truly slow down and fix the burnout that came from “hustle culture” (don’t even get me started on this one). Making more time for myself, for my family, and for the things that actually fill my cup, like random road trips, being in nature, and actually having the time to sit down and read a good book.

I went from taking on 20+ weddings a year to 5 (with room for a little stretch if we’re meant to be BFFs). Don’t get me wrong, that many weddings were great for my bank account, but it wasn’t worth sacrificing the experience I’m able to provide for my clients, and ultimately, that was the trade-off. 

I feel like for the first time in my 34 (as of tomorrow!) years of life, I’m finally in alignment with the person that I want to be and with the life I want to surround myself with.

Needless to say, it’s been a pretty great couple of years 💛

I have been itching to get back to this location since this day. I think I may need to plan a little creative session here 🤭

If I was going to break my streak, breaking it for friends who came all the way down from Ontario to get engaged among the mountains and lakes and where they could have me do their engagement photos - seems like a pretty good reason to post again.

I have been itching to edit this gallery since about a month before their wedding date. If I’m being honest, realistically it’s been about a year a half (that’s how early they booked me for their wedding day)! They had me as soon as they showed me their inspiration board. They wanted dark, moody, big emphasis on flash and utilizing the light and shadows. BIG VIBES for this wedding day with the most beautiful decor I’ve ever seen in their venue, a tattoo artist on site and Mario Kart races on a projector to keep the night going.

As soon as we chatted all the details of their vision for their day, I fell in love and I’m so grateful to have been apart of such a unique wedding.

This was the experience of a lifetime. Big thank you to S&P for trusting and guiding me through my very first Sikh wedding this summer. From the tradition to the ceremonies to the big party reception, the energy was magical.

So grateful to have connected and aligned with these two on their vision for their wedding day and our values around documenting such a special time.

This summer I experienced my worst fear as a wedding photographer.

The role we play in your wedding day is a big one. We’re responsible for the physical memories you take forward from your wedding day. We document all the magical moments. The ones you see, the ones you don’t, the ones you hope you never forget. It’s a big responsibility and it’s not something we take lightly.

We also often operate as a one person team and because of this, it can take a community. A big butt saving thank you is owed to the wonderful who associate shot this wedding for me while I was taken out by the worst, most anxiety inducing case of food poisoning I’ve ever experienced. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being apart of my community.
