Gerald is a tribal member of the Snuneymuxw (Coast Salish Nation) of Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC Canada. Gerald grew up with the beaches, forests and creeks as his playground, today Gerald lives and works in the Qualicum and Snaw-Naw-as Territory on Little Mountain overlooking the Salish Sea. Gerald was raised by a very artistic and talented mother who specialized in painting contemporary coasta
l scenery in oils. She would often hold art classes within the family home, and as a child Gerald was being introduced to the composition, structure and techniques in all mediums. In his late teens he attended a Snuneymuxw (Coast Salish) Potlatch that impacted his persona. Some First Nations People feel that this is where the seed was planted, and Gerald received his vision and desire to photograph the Totem Pole and Coastal Features. Life obligations made focusing on his passion impossible except as a hobbyist, over time he crafted his skills and studied the teaching and photography of Freeman Patterson and Ansel Adams. In his early years Gerald worked exclusively in Kodachrome 64, when the age of digital photography arrived, he put down his old equipment and invested into the new technology; this changed his art for the better. Apart from his photographic art Gerald indulges in creating illustrated artwork and is experimenting with combining both forms of media. It is through his unique composition and style of photographic art that Gerald brings new life and excitement to the sometimes-over-looked artistry, and ancestral connections that surrounds us in the Pacific Northwest. Gerald's photographic work has been published and internationally collected by business owners, private collectors and admires. Thank You for Visiting
