With the pandemic, more and more people are heading outside in parks and conservation areas. While it's a really good thing for our mental health, there are some ethical considerations for wildlife observation to keep in mind: https://www.marco-wildlifephotographer.com/post/ethics-of-wildlife-observation

Some prints are available on https://displate.com/marcolivierjodoin?art=5fc584d5ec59b. A tree is planted every time you buy on the site!

Being a wildlife photographer made me aware of these concepts early in my journey. I wanted to share them with you as these practices are primordial to avoid. Here are the most common unethical practices: 1. Baiting/feeding the wildlife 2. Playing their sound to attract them 3. Chasing 4. Overcrowdi...

Spending some time observing the Spotted Sandpiper. Did you know the Sandpiper always teeter when walking? However, the teetering gets faster when the bird is nervous, and stops when the bird is alarmed or aggressive. Educating ourselves with wildlife’s behaviour is really important to respectfully observe and appreciate them.

The Black-crowned Night-heron, named after the black top on the males’ head and their feeding schedule that goes from evening to early morning. They are found mostly in wetlands, nesting in colonies. It is a really nice bird to observe and photograph.

One of the best wildife photography tips is to get to eye level with the animals, even if it means lying down in the mud or on gravel. It creates distance between the subject and the background/foreground, thus creating a really nice bokeh. This helps isolate the subject, which creates a better sense of intimacy with the animal. Feel free to share some of your tips and tricks in the comment!

This nice landing picture of a female American wigeon was taken in October last year during migration season in Ottawa. It was my first encounter with that dabbling duck. Interestingly enough, this duck is also called "Robber Duck" due to its behaviour of stealing water plants brought back by diving birds, which they often gather with.
