This little angel is climbing a tree in the rain. 💔🦉🌧️

Baby Barred Owls leave the nest before they can even fly. They climb. They hop from branch to branch. They depend completely on Mom and Dad to find them, feed them, protect them, and teach them how to survive.

For months after leaving the nest, their parents are still their entire world.

Now imagine this baby soaked from the rain, climbing this tree and calling for a parent who will never answer again.

Not because they abandoned their baby.
Because someone killed them.

This is why we fight. We MUST save the Barred Owls. Their babies need them. 🦉💔

🦉 A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BABY BARRED OWL ❤️

One brave leap from the nest and CHAOS. He lands on a snag, dangles UPSIDE DOWN, tumbles to the forest floor and looks at me like, “NOW WHAT?!” 😳🦉

But this is how Barred Owls grow up. He climbs the tree using his powerful feet and beak and every few hours, Mom returns. ❤️ About 20 beautiful minutes of comfort, preening and reassurance before she flies off again.

He may have left the nest but he still needs his mama.

September 10, 2025, the killing of Barred Owls began in Marin County, California.

This September 10 marks ONE FULL YEAR.

One year of gunfire.
One year of families torn apart.
One year of babies left waiting for parents who will never return.

More than 15,000 Barred Owls are killed every year under this plan. And this is only the beginning.

The plan stretches across California, Oregon and Washington and is designed to continue for 30 years.

We cannot allow September 10 to become just another date on the calendar.

September 10 is Barred Owl Memorial Day. 🕯️🦉

We remember the owls already lost. We grieve the families that will never be whole again. And we fight like hell for every Barred Owl still alive.

For their first weeks out of the nest, Barred Owl fledglings use those powerful talons and beaks to climb trees while their flight feathers continue developing. Leaving the nest does NOT mean leaving Mom and Dad. They remain dependent on their parents for food and protection for MONTHS.

Yesterday I posted Part 1 and Part 2. Today I’m posting the FULL six minute interview because every owl lover needs to hear this.

This is Wayne Pacelle, President of Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy and THIS is the human who has been fighting for more than two years to stop the killing of Barred Owls in California, Oregon and Washington.

Wayne has fought this in court. He has taken this fight to Congress. He has challenged the USFWS publicly. And now he is taking the truth about the Barred Owl killing plan directly to mainstream media.

Kent is a retired USFWS wildlife biologist who spent YEARS studying Barred and Spotted Owls and served on the team that wrote the 2008 Northern Spotted Owl Recovery Plan.

And now? He publicly OPPOSES the mass killing of Barred Owls.

When someone with THIS background says the carnage, expense and distraction aren’t worth it and says protect the biodiverse old growth forests instead, I’M LISTENING. 🌲🦉
