June 6th, 1944
80 years ago, brave men stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. This invasion is known as D-Day.
It was the largest invasion ever assembled before or since, in human history. The invasion landed 156,000 allied troops (Canadian, British, and American) by sea and air on five beachheads in Normandy, France. D-Day was the start of Allied operations, which would ultimately liberate Western Europe, defeat N**i Germany, and end the Second World War.
Those 5 beachheads were:
Utah Beach: USA (23,000 landed, 197 died)
Omaha Beach: USA (34,000 landed, 2400 died)
Gold Beach: United Kingdom (25,000 landed, 400 died)
Juno Beach: Canada (21,400 landed, 381 died)
Sword Beach: United Kingdon (29,000 landed, 630 died)
We will never forget their sacrifice and tenacity to defeat the N**i stranglehold of Europe, we thank you for the freedom we have.
