HE WAS ONCE INCARCERATED. NOW HE’S HELPING EDUCATE CORRECTIONAL PROFESSIONALS.

On October 21, 2026, Terrence Bear facilitated his first Men’s Healing Journey Experience alongside Noella Chief at the Provincial Corrections Conference in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

This is what happens when we invest in people beyond their past.

Employment. Mentorship. Training. Responsibility. Accountability. Opportunity.

At New Direction Consulting, we’re not just talking about rehabilitation. We’re creating opportunities for men to demonstrate meaningful change.

Proud of you, Terrence. Keep moving forward.

Some people will decide who you are without knowing anything about you.

They don’t know your experiences, your challenges, your sacrifices, or what you’ve overcome.

Yet they feel comfortable making assumptions about your character and intentions.

I’ve learned that we cannot spend our lives trying to convince everyone to understand us.

We can remain open to constructive criticism while refusing to allow disrespectful assumptions to determine our direction.

Your responsibility is not to satisfy every opinion. Your responsibility is to live according to the values you claim to represent.

We cannot keep waiting until pain becomes a crisis. We must create opportunities for understanding, accountability and healing before another person falls through the cracks.

Here’s your 7-day challenge: Before reacting, correcting somebody, or giving advice, ask one genuine question and listen without interrupting.

Are you willing to accept the challenge? Let me know in the comments.

SOMETIMES WE’RE SO BUSY DEFENDING OURSELVES THAT WE FORGET TO LISTEN.

How often do we respond to somebody before we’ve taken the time to understand what they’re actually trying to tell us?

This happens in our families, relationships, workplaces, and communities. We interrupt, make assumptions, offer advice, and sometimes turn conversations into unnecessary arguments.

This week, I’m introducing the 7-Day Listening Challenge.

For the next seven days, during one meaningful conversation each day, ask one genuine question before giving your opinion. Then listen without interrupting.

Understanding doesn’t mean agreement. It means taking responsibility for how we communicate.

Are you willing to accept this challenge? Let me know in the comments.

WHEN DID WE DECIDE THAT MEN HAVE TO HIDE THEIR PAIN TO PROVE THEIR STRENGTH?

We tell men to take accountability, seek help, find employment and change their lives. But when they begin making progress, why are we sometimes so quick to question whether they deserve another opportunity?

Healing and accountability are not opposites. Neither are lived experience and professional leadership. At New Direction Consulting, we’re committed to creating meaningful opportunities for men to learn, grow and contribute while remaining accountable for their actions.

We cannot preach healing while shaming men for expressing emotion.

YOU CANNOT KEEP TELLING MEN TO CHANGE THEIR LIVES WHILE REFUSING TO GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY WHEN THEY DO.

On October 21, Terrence Bear, a man who once experienced incarceration himself, stood before Saskatchewan correctional professionals and helped facilitate his first Men’s Healing Journey Experience alongside Noella Chief. His story brought powerful conversations, emotional reflections and a deeper understanding of the challenges men face. This is what happens when lived experience becomes an opportunity to educate, lead and inspire change.

At New Direction Consulting, we don’t just talk about rehabilitation. We put it into practice. We hire, train, mentor and support men while providing real responsibilities and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Accountability matters, but so does giving people a chance to demonstrate who they’re becoming. This is the work. This is rehabilitation in action. And we’re just getting started.

SOMETIMES THE MOST POWERFUL LESSONS COME FROM THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIVED THROUGH THEM.

On October 21, 2026, something meaningful happened in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Terrence Bear, a member of our New Direction Consulting team, facilitated his very first Men’s Healing Journey Experience alongside Noella Chief at the Provincial Corrections Conference.

What makes this moment significant is Terrence’s personal journey.

Having experienced incarceration himself, Terrence now stands before correctional professionals, sharing his life experiences, the circumstances that contributed to his incarceration, and the changes he has made to move his life in a different direction.

The very system he once experienced as an incarcerated individual is now an audience learning from his experiences.

That is a powerful example of what accountability, personal growth and meaningful opportunities can look like.

The workshop encouraged conversations about childhood adversity, mentorship, trauma, incarceration, rehabilitation and the importance of understanding the person beyond their circumstances.

We also want to recognize Noella Chief, whose leadership and contributions to developing the Men’s Healing Journey Experience have helped bring this program to life.

Thank you to the Government of Saskatchewan, Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, for inviting New Direction Consulting to contribute to professional development for correctional personnel.

Terrence, we’re proud of the direction you’re taking and the example you’re setting.

Your past is part of your story, but it does not have to determine your future.
