Portugal - what a beautiful country and such lovely people. I have been on a back roads road trip with my hubby in a 5 speed hatchback! Over 1,300km of exploring . Here are a few of my fave ( and somewhat random) iPhone pics.

Hello friends,

I have returned home from an extraordinary week of learning in Italy, facilitated by Italy Photo Workshops, feeling exhausted yet inspired.

Our assignments presented challenges, including 'finding art in the ordinary', 'creating art in the shadows', and 'art in negative space'. Much more but that is a start

Many hours of classroom discussions, critiques, and refined our skills both creating and in editing. We pushed ourselves to explore fine art - more on that later.

I have made and renewed lifelong friends and enjoyed hours of beautiful conversation.

Here are some photographs, captured using both my iPhone and pro camera. Many are just random ‘in progress workshop ‘ pics.

I have been asked a few times to explain what goes into some of the photographs in Seaside magazine. Here is a little background on this one.

It is the July issue - when we celebrate Canada Day. I had hoped to create a cover image that reflected hope and strength of our beautiful country Canada.

I love the phrase… ‘ With Glowing Hearts’ in our National anthem so I started with the flag and hoped for some sunny glow in the background.

I wondered… what if I photographed an adorable toddler waving our flag - that could symbolize hope and the future of our country. Even if it didn’t it would be super cute anyway!

As often it does, doubt creeps in….would it be strong enough of an image for a cover? Would others see my vision? I haven’t photographed children in a long time, could I even keep up with a toddler? Who knew but let’s give it a try.

Thankfully an amazing mom Nareka had it all covered and her precious daughter Joy was absolutely perfect.

We met at the top of Hospital Hill near the long grass as the sun was lowering in the sky. There was that glow.

Joy ran gleefully through the grass, waved the flag, did her best to blow out dandelions and allowed me to capture this perfect moment between her and her momma.

Thank you Nareka for being amazing and to Joy for being just perfect ❤️🇨🇦❤️

I feel like a bit of a messenger today. I have been in Italy on a vacation with my hubby and met a new ‘friend’ today.

Waiting for my flight home at Rome airport and I bump into a woman in a line up. I apologize and she says to me ‘Where are you from?’ and I tell her Canada (although because I said sorry she may have already known I was Canadian).

She says ‘ I am just so sorry, I am just so sorry’. Tears are filling her eyes.

She was from the US. She tells me she has been hoping to meet a Canadian on this trip to tell them how so many US folks feel. We hugged and now I have tear filled eyes

We talked for a while. She reminded me of how so many people are living in the US in fear what is happening and who truly love their northern neighbours but are just trying to survive.

Travel is always full of enrichment but this has to be one of my most heartfelt.
