When photographing waterfalls, one of the biggest decisions is whether to use a wide-angle lens or a telephoto lens.
A wide-angle composition can immerse the viewer in the scene, using streams, rocks, moss, and forest elements to create depth and atmosphere. A telephoto composition can simplify a busy scene and highlight the beautiful details and patterns within the waterfall itself.
In my latest vlog and blog post, I explore four waterfalls at Oregon's McDowell Creek Falls Park and share how I approached each scene differently. From the layered tiers of Royal Terrace Falls to the lush ravine surrounding Majestic Falls, every waterfall presented unique opportunities and challenges.
Which do you prefer: wide-angle waterfall scenes that capture the entire landscape, or intimate telephoto compositions that focus on the details?
