A common question I get asked frequently is, "do you photograph weddings?" .

In short the answer is no.

The reason behind this is two fold. One, the responsibility I put on myself to please everyone by producing memorable photos that the bride and the groom and their families is more than they put on me.

I do it to myself.

Second , it makes for a very long day for myself and my partner. Not only on the day of the wedding but also in editing and correcting the photos.

Imagine editing over a thousand photos?

Would I consider it if the conditions were right?

depends....

I decided to accept an offer for a good friend of mine and shot the wedding in October. I'll be spending a few more weeks in Lightroom (editing program) to produce hopefully some acceptable photos for him and his new wife.

Meanwhile..... I'm sure they won't mind if I release some test shots I was able to do in my spare time so far.

I was able to sneak into the rehearsal a day before in order to assess lighting conditions, angles and positions....

Tonight we are shooting on location downtown Vancouver .

A live music venue .

Although the most fun to do , it offers the biggest challenge. It requires shooting with a lens with a 1.4 aperture to begin with so it lets the most light in so I don’t need to crank the ISO to crazy high numbers and get distortion or use flash. Then I need to keep the shutter speed fast enough to keep the pictures sharp without it being too dark .

It’s a bit of a balancing act that is out of my comfort zone .

Once in awhile you meet a couple that fate has brought together. They were meant to be together. They were born to be together. Being in the company of these two relaxes me and reminds me that happiness is underrated .

Took a trip down to Seattle for a Foo Fighters concert and decided to bring the 85mm 1.4 lens.

I had the time to experiment and tried a few things.
