Life in Betty

Life in Betty ‘Life in Betty’ is a personal blog about life as a disabled Canadian woman living in her 2020 KIA SOUL.

It was a random encounter with a woman I had never met before in the Walmart pillow aisle that recognized me from TikTok, by that evening she opened up her travel trailer to me and I would name her Hope.

Hope was a temporary offer which bought me a little time. I had just received my income tax return and put it back into Betty. At the service I would find out about her brakes and tires, so I fixed the one that could cause the greater concern.

I’ve lived in Betty in summer months before yet I was new to it and also clocking a lot of kms as I was driving myself to distraction.

I had a bit more money, stayed at campsites, had showers and it was fun.. Ignorance is bliss, mind you I didn’t think I was going to return from that trip yet that’s a different story for a different day.

Betty is the most home I feel in any place or space I have been in the past six years. It’s funny to think she was two when my world really fell apart and I thought how much more must I go through lol that’s a funny thought too. She is six now and we spend a lot of time together.

Watching the world go by us, just the two of us..

Resetting Betty has almost become a game, how much can I let go of, how can I refine the infrastructure and how can I make upgrades that I can afford.

Betty is considered a no build, build. This means nothing is permanent and I have done nothing to destroy her integrity. In fact I have all her parts, secure and stored here and there with in her.

Ventilation is a huge consideration especially when trying to not have mold yet also because it’s the start of summer.

Being a stealth dweller certain modifications need to look streamlined from the outside as to not catch someone’s eye and create a situation of curiosity.

It’s a methodical step at a time and everything has to have a place and a purpose to come along for the ride.

This is life in Betty.

Betty got her tires today and they washed her at the dealership too!

I’m still not sure how I managed to financially pull that off.

Yesterday in preparation I stripped her external vinyl and redressed it with dye I have been packing around with me.

It then dawned on me that Betty is six years old and not four 🤭😅

A big part in getting these tires was selling the last thing I was finding simple joy in and was near and dear to me.

Yet when push comes to shove Betty is my true ride or die and she gets all my finances first.

We are waiting on the next PWD payment so I can get a prepaid credit card and reserve a ferry.

Betty also needs new wipers and I need to wash all my blankets and soft things as I have been rebuilding her to be livable. Yet money unfortunately does not grow on trees lol

So slow and steady wins the race.

I have been reducing my food intake and scheduling my last fluid consumption to get through the night once we are back on the road.

My first stop is Squamish.

There are some changes taking place here and across my social platforms.
How do I want to show up?
What do I want to look like?
At the end of the day, as me, myself and I.
I am going to put some effort into my YouTube as I no longer have my camera and I think it’s a waste to not make some effort to document my journeys ahead with life in Betty.
