I spent 10 days letting go of the fear of being judged.

I just came back from a 6th 10-day Vipassana meditation course yesterday morning.

What a beautiful, necessary journey it’s been.

During this course, a lot of profound healing happened. I also worked deeply on my fear of being seen and being judged by others, allowing myself to be all that I am, without caring about what others could think.

I allowed myself to do “weird” things; I allowed myself to do what my soul truly wanted and needed, something I had held myself back from doing freely in my past courses. That included eating dhal with my hands, something I’ve learned to truly enjoy during my multiple travels to India.

I spent all my free time in the forest, lying barefoot on the forest floor and hugging trees three times a day, in plain sight. I walked the forest path 70 times in 10 days.

Yesterday morning, a woman came to me, telling me, “You were the one hugging the trees! It was the most touching moment of my day. I thought it was so beautiful that you took the time to connect with and honour nature in that way.”

That moment really stayed with me.

This is your sign to stop holding yourself back and allow yourself to be your weird, authentic self. Who knows, you might even inspire others by being who you really are.

“Imagine a caterpillar. He spends much of his life on the ground, looking up at the birds, filled with indignation at both his fate and his appearance. “I am the most despicable of creatures,” he thinks. “Ugly, repulsive, condemned to crawl about on the earth.”

One day, though, Nature asks him to make a cocoon. The caterpillar is most alarmed; he has never made a cocoon before. He assumes he is building his own tomb and prepares to die. Still indignant at the life he has led so far, he again complains to God:
“Just when I’d finally gotten used to being me, You take away the little I have.”

In despair, he shuts himself up in the cocoon and awaits his end.

A few days later, though, he finds he has been transformed into a beautiful butterfly. He can fly about in the air and be admired by humans. He is surprised by the direction in which life has taken him and by God’s designs.”

- Paulo Coelho, Maktub

After this course, I feel like I am back to my most true & authentic self, shining brighter than ever.

What’s one part of yourself you’re learning to stop hiding?

Today, I’m leaving for the biggest trip of my life… inward.

“The greatest traveler is not the one who went ten times around the world, but the one who went once around himself.” — Gandhi

I’m heading into a 10-day Vipassana meditation course. My first one was 10 years ago in Sri Lanka, and this will be my 6th time attending. After this, I will have spent 2 months of my life in complete silence, meditating 10 hours a day.

Vipassana is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but also the most rewarding.
No distractions. No contact with the outside world.
No eye contact. No physical contact.
No writing. No reading.
Noble silence for 10 days.
Waking up at 4am. Meditating 10 hours a day.
And no food after noon (as an old student).

So why do I keep returning to what feels like mental jail?

Because every time, I meet myself more deeply.

Ever since yoga saved my life at 16, Vipassana has been the technique that has helped me the most on my journey, guiding me back home to myself again and again.

For me, it’s a reset button to learn how to live again.
How to be present.
How to breathe.
How to be happy.
How to walk, eat, and truly live.

I know I’m about to step into one of the most intense and transformative experiences of my life, once again… and I trust that everything I need is already within me.

This photo was taken in Myanmar, where I completed my 3rd 10-day Vipassana meditation course in 2018. Pictured is Bagan, the home of the largest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas, and ruins in the world.

If this path resonates with you, I’d love to feel your presence here before I go 🤍

Be happy x

I used to want to disappear.
This is 30.

On February 15th, I completed a 30th return to the Sun, and today, I can finally say I’m proud of the woman I’ve become.

I used to make myself so small I wanted to disappear.
Afraid to take up space.
Afraid to speak my mind.
Afraid to be seen.
(Scroll right, that was me in 2012)

Today, I’m celebrating something deeper than a birthday.

5 years alcohol-free.
5 years of choosing my body, my mind, and my spirit over temporary escape.
5 years of doing the hard thing in a world where alcohol is normalized and omnipresent—and saying no anyway.
5 years of not poisoning my body anymore for the sake of fitting in and avoiding uncomfortable moments.

And maybe the biggest thing:
5 years of choosing myself.

If you’re in a season of becoming—where things feel uncomfortable, unfamiliar, or even lonely… keep going. There is so much power on the other side of that choice.

This is your reminder that you’re allowed to take up space and honor yourself.

Tell me one way you’ve chosen yourself lately 👇

At 19, I bet everything on myself.

This photo was taken in February 2016, the year I decided to make my wildest dreams come true.

2015 was the year I became a yoga teacher at 19, after travelling alone to India. A trip that almost killed me, coming back from it with most likely cholera and being hospitalized in Canada upon my return. 2015 was also the year I quit everything to follow my dreams.

After quitting the job I had in a restaurant, after breaking up with the boyfriend I had been with for 3 years, after dropping out of photography school in college, I bought a one-way plane ticket to India in December 2015. I got my nose pierced 2 days before leaving for this trip (I don’t recommend the experience).

I had found my first-ever yoga teaching job in the Andaman Islands at 19 years old. I was teaching yoga for the first time since my yoga teacher training in India 6 months prior. I was living in a hut in the jungle. This is where I celebrated the New Year 2016.

In 2016, I sat my first 10-day Vipassana meditation course in Sri Lanka at 20 years old. It was a year of many months of travel in India, Sri Lanka, and the United States.

I had photographed my first wedding in 2014, but 2016 was the year my wedding photography career started seriously, and also the year I truly started teaching yoga.

10 years later, I’ve photographed over 75 weddings. I’ve taught yoga in 9 different countries, on four continents: India, Andaman Islands, Bali, Myanmar, Laos, Canada, United States, Jamaica, Colombia, and in the Amazon rainforest of Peru. I’ve also been leading multiple weekly yoga classes in Canada for years.

Today, I honour the road that shaped me. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful to my younger self, who dared to follow her heart to create her own unconventional path.

Heart first, always.

What’s one decision you made that completely changed the direction of your life? 👇
