Une chose que j’ai appris au courant des années est que parfois nous travaillons tellement fort pour obtenir ce que l’on souhaite qu’on en oubli les raisons et la motivation à créer. L’amour de créer, l’amour de pousser ses limites, l’amour d’explorer. La dernière chose que l’ont veut c’est que la créativité devienne acquise. Pour moi, ce serait simplement la fin. C’est important et un must de créer pour soit. Ce sont les raisons qui m’ont poussé à faire ce projet. J’ai eu une discussion au milieu de l’année avec un ami à propos de ce concept et c’était trop complexe pour les délais que nous avions. Ça m’a pris des heures à figurer comment et où je ferais congeler un soulier. Trouver le contenant qui me permettrait d’avoir de beaux coins. Est-ce que la glace sera assez clair pour voir le produit? Combien de temps cela prendra pour geler? Comment le soulier va rester au milieu du contenant et geler au centre? Où est-ce que je vais faire ce shoot? Est-ce que je vais avoir une innondation dans le studio à cause des lumières et de la température ambiante? Oh combien pèserons ces blocs? Après penser et repenser à toutes ces questions, j’ai décidé de faire affaire avec Julien un sculpteur sur glace qui m’a partagé son savoir et m’a aidé à geler les souliers dans son gros congelateur commercial. Il a répondu à tous les questions que je me posais. Ça m’a rappelé à quel point c’est important d’engager des gens qui ont un savoir. Il m’a fait sauver énormément de temps et j’ai beaucoup appris. J’aimerais aussi remercier mon ami Raphael qui m’a assisté pendant le shoot. Sans lui, je n’aurais jamais été capable de bouger ces blocs de 150lbs. Un gros merci aussi pour ta créativité Raph! Alors, est-ce que vous pouvez deviner où j’ai fait le shoot? C’était dans ma cuisine. J’aimerais simplement terminer en vous disant de continuer à créer pour vous. Vous allez tellement apprendre et surtout garder cet amour de créer.
What I’ve learned over the years is that sometimes you have to work so hard to make things happen that it became easy to loose the reasons and the drive to create. The love of creating, the love of pushing your limits, the love of exploring. The last thing you want to feel is that creativity is acquired. For me, it would be the end. Creating for your own is something you have to keep in mind. These are the reasons that pushed me to make this project happen. I had a discussion about this project in the middle of the year with a friend and it was a bit complex for the timeline. I took hours to figure out how and where I would freeze a shoe. What kind of box I would use to have sharp corners and how the heck the ice would be clear enough to see the shoes? How long would it takes to be frozen? How the shoe would stay in the middle of the ice? Where I would shoot it? Will I have a flood in the studio if it melt because of the strobes and the ambiant temperature? Oh and how heavy this thing will be? After thinking and thinking I’ve reached out to Julien an ice sculptor who share me his knowledge and help me to freeze the shoes in his big commercial freezer. He figure out all the questions I had. This remember me how important it can be to pay someone for his knowledge. He saved me a lot of time and I’ve learned a lot from him. I would also thanks my good friend Raphael who help me a lot during the shoot. Without him, I were not able to move those 150lbs pieces of ice. Also a big thanks for your good eyes and creativity Raph. So can you guess where I finally shoot this? It was actually in my kitchen. Guys, please continue to create for your own. You will learn a lot and you will keep the love of making things.
